hoffentlich is die Heckklappe vom Auto breit genug. Weil: ob sie DEN Stecken wieder freiwillig hergibt, erscheint mir alles andere als gesichert.

A picture taken, if I remember well at #Valladolid 🇪🇸, in February 2009. This is a #RENFE Class 594 #TRD unit, of a design close to Danish DSB Class MF “rubber nose” railcars. These vehicles are mainly used for medium distance services on non-electrified lines.

#Munich 🇩🇪 in August 2001: a #DB Class 103 electric is being attached to its train, with the pantographs down for this purpose. The conductor is supervising the procedure. Workings by these iconic locomotives had already become pretty rare back then.

You CAN paint an Avelia nicely though. Picture taken last Saturday. They simply took the colours of their flag 🇺🇸, red white and blue. (Thinking hard what colours are used for the British and French flags respectively 🤔.)

Seen last Saturday at #Wilmington, DE 🇺🇸: #Amtrak train #98, the Silver Meteor, makes a station stop under the morning sun on its way from #Miami to #NYC. The consist includes #Amfleet #Coach seaters and a Cafe Car as well as a #Viewliner #Diner, #Sleepers and a Baggage Car.

Concluding a long voyage home from #Italy’s 🇮🇹 very South with lunch in the #SBB🇨🇭#DiningCar. The plate is the perfect match: Maccheroni and minced meat, inspired by Italian cuisine and, at the same time, a Swiss train restaurant classic. Plus a glass of Valais, Rhône valley, Red 🍷.

Good Morning from the #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #InterCityNotte from #Sicily to #Milan. Breakfast ist served in the sleeper cabin at dawn as we pass the Cinque Terre hilltop villages. What beautiful day at the Riviera di Levante. No opening windows on the train, yet last night’s rain did some good cleaning.

Travelling by train between #Sicily 🇮🇹 and mainland #Italy includes a #ferry crossing, one of the highlights of the trip. The carriages are loaded on the ship. During the sailing, passengers can enjoy some fresh air on the upper decks and try out the famous #Arancini from the ship’s buffet.

Leaving #Sicily 🇮🇹 for northern #Italy on this #InterCityNotte, a genuine “cross-country” long distance sleeper service. About 22 hours, if one travels all the way from either #Siracusa or #Palermo through to #Milan.
Settling into the sleeper cabin, which is still in daytime “sofa” configuration.

A stop at #Taormina-Giardini 🇮🇹 on the #Messina to #Siracusa line in Sicily. Easily winning any train-station beauty contest.

First train today: #Palermo 🇮🇹 to #Messina by #Trenitalia #InterCity. It’s a push-pull operation: after the ferry-crossing from #Sicily to the mainland, the train will be coupled to a section originating in #Siracusa. There are vending machines for drinks and snacks on the train, but no #DiningCar.

A visit to #Monreale 🇮🇹 this afternoon. Located on a slope overlooking #Palermo and the Mediterranean, it is home to a breathtakingly beautiful 12th century Cathedral.

Going through the pictures taken today of, and on board, the #GrimaldiLines 🇮🇹 ferry #ZeusPalace. The vessel makes an early evening alternate departure at either #Livorno or #Palermo and arrives the following day, mid-afternoon, at destination. A beautiful crossing of about 20 hours.
