#Trieste 🇮🇹 Centrale last Friday. Pictured here is the #FS #Trenitalia #InterCityNotte #770 for Rome, if there weren’t a strike. Hauled by two Class E402B electrics, top’n’tail, it included seat cars, couchettes and a T3 sleeper (one of just a few, it’s got some cabins with en-suite facilities).

Seen last week at #Lyon 🇫🇷 Part-Dieu station, while waiting for my connecting train: the #Renfe 🇪🇸 #AVE Class S-100 high speed train, a close relative of the #SNCF TGV-Atlantique. They were about to leave for #Barcelona. The car with two rows of windows, one on top of the other, is the #Cafeteria car.

Dann sagt er auch Spittal, mit Betonung auf dem i, und kurz, anstatt Spittaaaal (-Mülstätaasäh).

Gute Fahrt trotzdem (bzw erst recht).

Fog in #Venice 🇮🇹, sunshine at the border station #Tarvisio and pumpkin risotto for lunch in the #DiningCar of the #ÖBB #Railjet #RJX134 on its way to #Vienna 🇦🇹 today.

On the last train for today: a 250 kph #FS 🇮🇹 #Trenitalia #Frecciarossa Class #ETR600 high-speed tilting train takes me from #Milan to #Venice. It’s got a sort of #DiningCar, labelled “Freccia Bistrò”. Well, it’s a counter where one can purchase drinks and light meals to take to one’s seat.

#FS 🇮🇹 #Trenitalia #InterCity trains, like the #Ventimiglia to #Milano one today, haven’t got a proper #DiningCar in their consists. Yet, in most cases, there’s a multi-purpose car with vending machines and an area with bar stools. The espresso coffee, it costs 1.30 Euros, is actually quite decent.☕️👌

With #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #FS #InterCity from #Ventimiglia to #Genova and #Milano. Beautiful scenery, as we pass along the #Mediterranean and through coastal towns.

Next step, prochaine étape : #Marseille to #Nice on board an #SNCF 🇫🇷 duplex #TGV #inOui. It’s got a nice #Bar #DiningCar where a lovely steward is selling food and drinks. The interior of the cars, namely the seats, follows the #Océane design style.

Seeing what the algorithm at work here proposed, I get the impression that their level of trust in #SNCF’s capacity of running trains properly, is somewhat limited.

If you LOVE travelling in the middle seat, but aren’t that much into flying, THIS is your thing: the French #TGV #Ouigo 🇫🇷, #SNCF’s low-cost, and high-speed, train. It’s REALLY fast, up to 300 kph. And in case you are more of a window or aisle-seat kind of person: it’s got plenty of these as well. ❤️

#Genève🇨🇭Cornavin to #Lyon 🇫🇷 Part-Dieu on a loco-hauled train today: a nice surprise to see an #SNCF Class #BB22200 “nez cassé” electric hauling a consist of #Corail carriages. They were built in the 1970s. In my view, they are still among the most comfortable and stylish cars around on French rails.

Good morning from the #SBB🇨🇭#elvetino #DiningCar. I’m travelling along the #Jura piedmont line on board an #RABDe500 #ICN tilting train, enjoying a late second breakfast in the diner.

es gibt üblicherweise ein paar Plätze für “last minute reservations”, die als solche, fahrtstreckenunspezifisch, im Display über dem Sitz aufscheinen. Die können auch reserviert werden, wenn der Railjet bereits vom Abfahrtsbahnhof (also Budapest oder Wien oder was auch immer) abgefahren ist.

#ÖBB 🇦🇹 Class 5081.500 #Schienenbus railcars used to work passenger services over the #Erzbergbahn line. They were specifically equipped for operations over the steep incline. This is long gone. On the picture below, taken in July 2011 at #Erzberg station, we see a railbus working a tourist train.

East, the line for Bratislava

Siebenbrunn-Leopoldsdorf (for those who like long train station names). Rural #Austria 🇦🇹 in a way, yet just a stone’s throw from #Vienna. Picture taken in November 2018, before the line was upgraded and electrified. This is actually the most direct line to #Bratislava 🇸🇰, via #Marchegg.

Passagiere? Hm. Etwa ein Ticket für die Arche Noah gebucht?

#Lyon #Perrache 🇫🇷 in May 2007: an #SNCF “BB Jacquemin” class 25200 dual voltage electric (with an interesting logo mix on the front) is awaiting departure, ready to work a rake of Swiss #SBB carriages. To the right, one recognises a #Z2 unit displaying a blue regional livery.

#Szombathely 🇭🇺 in June 2011, at dusk, at about nine in the evening. That day, I travelled from #Zagreb 🇭🇷 to #Vienna 🇦🇹 on board train #284. This through service, via #Hungary, only existed for about two years, if I remember well.
A #GySEV Class #V43 electric will take us as far as #Sopron.
