this is so critical - the problem with these laws that theoretically criminalise buyers of sex is that either sex workers get criminalised too, or sex workers are forced to work in more dangerous situations, increasingly their likelihood of harm and the potential severity of that harm.

Transactional Intercourse, an anthology including 30 trans and intersex sex workers’ writing, will serve as a snapshot of experiences in our own words. It is now available on Kickstarter so we can crowdfund its publication!

I've been fortunate enough to have a lot of other sex workers I know share the call for pitch submissions, but I can always use more! I'll reach out, plus if they're willing to share the project in general that's a bonus.

I'm tired of looking for stories from trans and intersex sex workers and finding far more instances of people speaking over us than instances where we get to speak for ourselves. We're 20% of the way to an anthology seeking to combat that!

Just over 24 hours in and we're off to a good start (15% funded with 29 days left)! Getting the rest of the way there is going to be a battle and having people get excited about the anthology and hype it up makes it more likely we'll make it to fully funded.

A full range of perspectives and circumstances will be presented in this anthology rather than stifling voices to create a collection that is solely about empowerment or trauma. There is enough room for those of us who love sex work and those of us who hate it!

People who do not conform to society's expectations with regards to our sex and gender are either overlooked or made into hypervisible subjects of mockery and hatred, and this is compounded further when we engage in stigmatized labour like sex work. That's why projects like this matter!

“There’s a lot of complicated dynamics that come with navigating things like having clients who are urologists who are actually the ones doing intersex genital mutilation surgery, but then also wanting to pay intersex people for sex when we’re adults... that’s absolutely one of the things that fucks with my mind the most.”

“I have really special memories of being at a national intersex conference and having a few of us sneak out of the sessions to talk about being intersex sex workers outside sitting on the floor, and it was the most seen I’ve ever felt in my life to talk with people who really intimately understood.”

There's a diversity of experience that often goes unappreciated - intersex sex workers have their own struggles as well as those which overlap with trans workers', women and men and non-binary people each have their own perspectives, all on top of race and class and disability. Let's hear!

"Insisting that trans and/or intersex sex workers owe information about our identities to clients will never be convincing when those sorts of concerns naturally have to be secondary to staying fed and affording shelter."

Almost 5000 respondents in the end, I'm amazed!

A highlight of the survey - so few people said they wouldn't be friends with a sex worker that the segment saying so was almost too small to see on the pie chart!
