I'm not actually trans, but it's interesting that you assume that the only people who could possibly care must be. Or that anyone who demonstrates more knowledge about the law than you clearly have, must be acting in bad faith.

They also understand that just because something can 'hardly be seen' it doesn't mean it is insignificant.

Our Year 2 children understand this.

Whether they choose to hear the case or not (they still have three months to decide), is irrelevant. You claimed that the Supreme Court ruling was not contested. It clearly is.

Once again, misrepresenting the law. But your answer clarifies for me that you're not familiar with the Hampstead Ponds, or you would know that there is already a mixed sex pond.

07.10.2025 21:10 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Trans people can access the ponds on the basis of the policy of the ponds, which currently is inclusive of trans people. Your interpretation of what constitutes a woman or a man is irrelevant.

And yes, I shouldn't assume your acceptance that transgender rights are protected made you happy. Nevertheless, I'm happy to note that you accept that the law doesn't change their access rights.

I'm glad to note that you are happy for trans people to access the ponds as is currently the case. And yes, I should have been clearer that the ruling had led to poor guidance being issued (then withdrawn). The appeal currently with the EHCR is obvious evidence of the interpretation being contested.

07.10.2025 20:43 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

No I didn't miss the contested interpretation, but as that judgement made clear, there was no material change to the rights of transgender people as a result of the ruling because they were still protected under Section 7. Anything else is mere 'guidance' not law.

Thank you. So, in fact it doesn't exclude transgender people. And Section 7 prohibits discrimination under gender reassignment.

Can you point me to the exact clause in the Equality Act that states that trans women can't swim in the women's pond?

It's astonishing to anyone who lived through the 80s, that the Labour party now sit to the right of Tory grandee Heseltine.

Book Week next week and we're welcoming Matt Goodfellow, Katya Balen, Liz Million, Paddy Donnelly, Leo Timmers and Nathalie Dieterlรฉ into school to work with our children. What an amazing end to this half term.

Dadโ€™s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending itโ€™s their own fault. So I hope Kemiโ€™s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

Equating Reform with fascism is accurate and not dangerous but necessary. They should be opposed in the strongest terms and not appeased to win votes. You are, of course, free to continue to support a party that is now in effect what Tory was pre 2019 - but it makes your comments re ZP hypocritical.

07.10.2025 17:20 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes. There's a certain irony I think in mocking others for changing their minds/changing parties while sticking loyally with a party that has swung so far to the right that they're barely distinguishable from the Tories pre 2019.

07.10.2025 17:08 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Who knows indeed. Like you say, people can change their minds. I know several Lib Dems who thought that you might be able to moderate/influence from the inside and left feeling disillusioned and bruised. I don't judge them because it feels different trying and failing than aping fascists for votes.

07.10.2025 16:44 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Well you could, I guess, if you were willing to overlook the continuation of austerity, attacking migrants, rolling out the red carpet for genocidal autocrats and demonising trans people.

Hardly a life long 'cheering on' is it? I genuinely did spend the best part of mine cheering on Labour - hoping in opposition that they'd win and hopeful in power that they'd make life better (which, with a few flaws here and there, they did). Until now. It's awful to see what Labour has become.

07.10.2025 16:33 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Is that right? Lib Dems were in coalition between 2010-2015. He joined them in 2016 for one year (as I understand it, in part because they seemed to be the only party willing to consider the fact that Brexit was a disaster) and left a year later.

To give you a flavour it was someone claiming that Anne Frank was a crisis actor and her diary a work of fiction followed by some attempt to claim that Biden deliberately imported migrants in to throw elections etc. That level of crazy.

I'm Jewish. I'm also Mancunian.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?
