She seems to have based that judgement on height. Walk around any school sixth form or university these days and you'll see a lot of young women who are 6ft or taller. But even if the woman was trans, so what? She was only directing them to where they might find a bra fitting service.

It certainly is given that the children most likely to be excluded in a tightly controlled education system are those from disadvantaged backgrounds or with SEND and those most likely to receive a more holistic, broad education are those who can pay for it.

But it seems very much to be the case that in more conservative/right governments, there is more talk of 'rigour' 'standards' 'discipline' etc and these often sit alongside more controls of content of curriculum - for example around SRE/equality and diversity etc

They're heading right up your street if this nationalistic far right wing of the government get their way, sadly. They won't meddle in universities/entrance requirements, but school curriculum is likely to be narrowed. Though PR does help with moderating some of the extremes.

It's pretty norm here - teacher assessed high school certificate and universities will offer almost all who want it a place. Not unusual for a student to spend 5 years getting their degree here. But then it costs just a few hundred euros a year. Most of the population is trilingual too.

I'm cautious about claims around declining standards when there are clear concerns about the tests we judge that on. PIRLS has been criticised for cultural and linguistic bias and the OECD issues caveats about its own PISA tests - especially post covid.

And so why question their right to raise it as an issue?
