Yeah, as tech became more and more integrated into our lives the overtones of what tech is for has shifted. The stakes for mass misinformation are much higher these days. I think it's a bubble and investment will fall, but it's all too sweet of a deal for authoritarians who want to manipulate.

The difference is parsing through information and making decisions VS asking a single central authority to do the cognitive load for you.

Also heads up I'm not really interested in internet debating. The ad made me depressed for the above reasons, you don't have to have the same reaction as me.

I think bc the ad isn't "give me some BBQ ideas" and is simply "what should I make" it feels like giving up the agency that would be maintained the other ways. Also in the ad he asked what day / time to host his BBQ. Asking a computer to schedule your weekend like a business meeting is cursed.

"I'd rather outsource basic thinking to a machine than be grounded in myself for 5 minutes." I know I sound dramatic but it signals hating being alive in a basic way. You want to sleep walk through the world until you croak? Learning and feeling nothing? This existence is all we have, this is it.

There's this ad where the guy asks AI what he should make for his sunday BBQ, and tbh it really depressed me. Make what sounds good to you? What you're craving? It feels like fully abandoning your personhood to have a computer assign you something like that. You're alive, live in your body and mind.
