View of a park with short green grass, a bare tree in the middle ground and a line of mixed evergreen and deciduous trees and shrubs in the distance. The sky is mostly pale grey and white clouds with patches of bright blue.
Large queen Buff-tailed Bumblebee, a furry black bee with 2 golden stripes and a buff-coloured tail, on clusters of small pinkish white flowers (Viburnum tinus).
Pinkish white plum blossom πΈ
View showing a grassy track leading into the distance under a bright blue sky dotted with wispy white clouds. On the left are 3 tall poplar trees, their branches catching the sun. In the distance are a mixture of deciduous and evergreen trees.
Beautiful day for a stroll round Homestead Park. Loads of blossom, bees and birds - Siskin, LTT, Goldfinch, Robin, Wren, Blackbird, Magpie, Stock Dove, and a Peregrine interacting with 2 Buzzards circling overhead. @yorkbirding.bsky.social @nybirdnews.bsky.social @bumblebeetrust.bsky.social

27.02.2026 17:49 β π 137 π 13 π¬ 6 π 0Please respect these new signs by keeping to public footpaths and not entering sensitive wildlife areas - all clearly signposted 'no public access beyond this point' βοΈ Thank you for helping to protect and conserve the wildlife that have chosen to make the #LDV their 'home' π¦π¦
27.02.2026 17:16 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0This week new signs have been installed around the #LDV by our Responsible Recreation Officer, & with large numbers of wintering birds present & many breeding birds returning, keeping to the Public Rights of Way, controlling dogs & respecting sensitive areas is very important π¦
27.02.2026 17:07 β π 10 π 4 π¬ 1 π 1Interesting to hear several overwintering Blackcaps are still present around the #LDV and surrounding area, but these will no doubt be moving off soon as we get ready to see the first returning summer migrants arrive next month. Thanks to @stuartmash.bsky.social for the fantastic image πΈ
27.02.2026 13:46 β π 13 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0It's also been a good winter for both Siskin and Redpoll in the local area, especially the lowland heath and birch woodland of #SkipwithCommon NNR and the canal side alders along the Pocklington Canal. Thanks to Andrew Woodcock for these lovely images taken last week in his Wheldrake garden πΈ
27.02.2026 13:51 β π 8 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Treecreepers have been showing well around the hedgerows at North Duffield Carrs (between the hides and around the car park area) recently, and whilst the wintering waterfowl will always be the key attraction, it's also nice to enjoy the antics of this species and others from the bird hides πΈ
27.02.2026 13:56 β π 10 π 3 π¬ 1 π 0We're pleased to say that our new #LDV NNR Volunteer, Community & Nature Recovery Science Hub is coming along nicely now, ahead of completion (June all being well), & the view from the new viewing area on the roof is simply fantastic (& includes a wet weather covered area π) @yorkbirding.bsky.social
27.02.2026 14:07 β π 19 π 4 π¬ 0 π 0Iβm starting to wonder if this could be a breeding year for redpolls in York. Our winter flock is very persistent, males are moving into breeding plumage, and obviously they used to be a more widespread breeding bird, including in York. @yorkbirding.bsky.social
