Screenshot of the portfolio site, featuring a stylised sea-like 'gradient' for saturated pinks, blues and greens.
Quietly rolling out a completely redone portfolio website.
Featuring: no longer having to use node 14 to get it to work! Also Svelte 5. And a CMS replacing a very large projects.json - I feel so mature now.

You conjugate almost everything. In 'one beautiful woman', every word is feminine. Surnames always express something akin to belonging, a possessive. Usually ending in -ov/ev (masculine) and -ova/eva (feminine). So by giving Viktor a first name surname, JK essentially made it gender-neutral π«

It always struck me (and everyone else) as odd that J. K. Rowling chose to call the Bulgarian character of HP Viktor Krum. Let's dissect that a bit. These are two first names, a basically impossible combo in Bulgarian. We've got a gendered language, in fact a highly gendered one. 1/

I am really saddened by the level of vitriol and hatred being directed toward the trans community.
We are losing our common humanity. How hard is it to treat people with kindness and respect?
Trans people are human beings β and they deserve to live in dignity like anyone else.

Kurt Vonnegut tells his wife he's going out to buy an envelope:
"Oh, she says, well, you're not a poor man.
You know, why don't you go online and buy a hundred envelopes and put them in the closet?
And so I pretend not to hear her. And go out to get an envelope because I'm going to have a hell of a good time in the process of buying one envelope.
I meet a lot of people. And see some great looking babies. And a fire engine goes by.
And I give them the thumbs up. And I'll ask a woman what kind of dog that is. And, and I don't know. The moral of the story is β we're here on Earth to fart around
And, of course, the computers will do us out of that. And what the computer people don't realize, or they don't care, is we're dancing animals. You know, we love to move around.
And it's like we're not supposed to dance at all anymore."

Exploring the Windows 3D maze screensaver you find a smiley face lurking from behind the corner. The face is very big. It looks menacing.
In a room with monitors piled on a trashcan. There are papers surrounding the dumpster, and bags of trash in the corner. Someone cleared out in a hurry.
Entering the classic 3D maze screensaver. There are rats up ahead. You must collect them.
Turning a corner to find old CRT monitors piled against the wall. Mice are dangling from the ceiling. The "Start" icon is in the corner.

In all the discourse on AI vs software eng, I keep seeing variations on the same: 'AI can't do scalable, secure code and that's what devs do'. I'd love to see more on the creativity of writing code, grounding it in being human and real-world experiences. I don't think devs are scalability machines.
