Definitely one of the coolest moments I've covered. Unprompted, fans rose in applause before the final strike. Drew Ball got it to record 16K in a 1-hit CG for the Red Wing Aces. The one hit was the only runner to reach base safely against him.

Goodhue made it close when it wasn't for much of the game. Gave Red Lake County a scare but the deficit was simply too much. They don't want to go 0-2 at state again where tomorrow they'll face Heritage Christian again.

Goodhue falls victim to upset, will face Sleepy Eye St. Mary's for third place Everyone loves to see an upset and watch the underdog win a big game. Unless of course you are the team favored to win.

A combination of perfect defensive positioning by West Central Area and poor outside shooting by Goodhue led to the upset in Class A semifinal. Wildcats can still have fun ending the season on a positive note tomorrow for third place.

Roschen leads high-scoring Goodhue to second consecutive section title Luke Roschen wasn’t going to be denied. Neither was the rest of the Goodhue team.

Gone are the days when Goodhue was scoring 40 or 50 points and grinding out wins that way. This version of the Wildcats can put up monster offensive numbers. Four section tournament games, at least 90 pts in three of them. They are back to state next week.

Good in all aspects: Wildcats settling in after state quarterfinal win With so many of the same players from last year and even two years ago, Goodhue felt some comfort that Walker-Hackensack-Akeley didn’t.

Goodhue is moving on to the Class A semifinals after looking mighty good in their quarterfinal win. Consensus after the game was they were a No. 1 seed playing like one.

Wire to wire: Mikkelson displays premier skill as state champ For the first time in 15 years, Red Wing has a state champ in diving.

Zach Mikkelson is the fourth Red Wing diver to win a state title. He also had the best score of a Class A winner in last 10 years. He led from start to finish. Nobody was catching him Saturday.

Tiger takeover: Lake City comes alive in final minutes for semifinal victory In all his years coaching Greg Berge hasn’t seen a game like this. Frankly, neither have the players.

The only thing Lake City lost last night was an hour of sleep. Their complete 180 in the final minutes of a section semifinal has them back in the finals once again.

Tonight is the first night of the Section 1AAA girls basketball tournament. All quarterfinals. Here in Red Wing, the No. 2 Wingers host No. 7 Faribault. Wingers won both of the previous matchups this season. Tipoff just before 7.

Tough second half for the Tigers. Lourdes had great bench production.

I think RW will feel they could be leading by more. Some good ball movement and some shots that were there but rimmed/rolled out. Only three players for RW were on scoresheet until final minute.

Wingers got pummeled in the paint. Spartans spread the ball around beautifully as 12 players scored.

Halftime: Mayo 42, Red Wing 16

Well this one has blown open. Wingers had a somewhat of a sleepy start. They got within 5, but have fallen behind as Mayo has dominated the boards.
