Today, with hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, the Church gathered in St. Peter’s Square for the Funeral Mass of Pope Francis, the 266th Successor of Peter.
Thousands of faithful, cardinals, bishops, priests, religious, world leaders, and pilgrims from every corner of the world filled the square.
At 8 pm at St. Peter’s Basilica, the coffin of the Roman Pontiff was closed in a rite led by the Cardinal Camerlengo. Family members attended. A prayer vigil will continue through the night until tomorrow’s funeral Mass.
