the difference is that with Covid is that

1. the entire world was in chaos so voters didn’t pin as much of it on him personally

2. Operation warp speed was actually good and before he became hardcore antivaxx

Tweet from Katie Porter: 0% state income tax for California families making under $100,000. That’s thousands of dollars back in your pocket where it belongs.

As Governor, I’ll work the issue at both ends—lowering taxes for those who are struggling and raising them on the biggest corporations that can afford to pay.

Personally, I think people who are between the third and fourth quintile of income-earners in California should probably pay some income tax.

if every global transit system switched to two person train operation, it would result in service decreases, more people driving, and increased emissions, driving tons of death all across the globe

it’s baffling when people say this about the MTA, a public agency that operates at a loss and relies on significant amounts of government funding to provide a critical service.

Making the MTA more efficient doesn’t mean additional profit, it means more service within its budgetary constraints

it’s crazy how his entire crowd has just been shitposting about the senate housing bill, completely refusing to address any of the facts or policy tradeoffs.

like, sure, plenty of Abundance folks are annoying but that doesn’t mean “abundance = bad” is a coherent policy vision

its actually crazy that simply saying “New York City does not need to be the only place in the world that legally mandates two person train operation” results in literal death threats

its so funny that they think opening the strait of Hormuz is about captains of container ships having balls and just doing it when in reality it’s about insurance lol

It is hard not to think that MPU wants to make their viewers as stupid as possible. If I wanted to incapacitate the American left, running MPU would be a decent strategy

“antisemitism is a real problem in America” and “The actions of the Israeli government are fueling antisemitism in america” are two statements that are not at odds. if anything, both of those statements put together should make you realize how awful the situation is right now.

given the fact that a synagogue was violently attacked today I would say antisemitism is a problem, actually

Jews are disproportionately better off on virtually every social indicator and position of power than the median American, and Judaism polls as the religion with the highest approval rating.
Antisemitism may make you feel alive but it's not a real problem for you.

"There is no antisemitism on the left" is the kind of lie people tell when ideology matters more to them than truth.
Everyone knows it exists. Everyone.

The core problem is that literally 50% of the water is diverted to make comically tiny profits of, like, a few hundred million dollars, so trillions of actual economic activity gets held hostage by some clown who bought land in 1872. Put a market price on water and the problem is instantly fixed.

raise taxes on the rich, absolutely. But we should use it to

-build out green energy and transportation
-build more low income housing
-fund universal healthcare
-fund universal childcare

all of these are more important than cutting taxes

Something is off here. Schatz comes in at the last minute and casts a meaningless vote against this housing bill that passed by a mile.
Feels like a signal that he's gonna play ball with K St if he becomes senate leader. Warren denies this is a drafting error. What's going on Show more

Abundance isn’t a perfect governing framework, matt yglesias is annoying etc etc…

but man the people who center their entire politics around being anti-abundance are just deeply unpleasant and completely incurious about actual policy impacts.

Tons of misinformation here ! I'd love to see the vote - because residents never voted. A petition circulated with below 1/4 respond rate.
I'm pro-housing, pro-tenant rights, and pro-seniors living in dignity.
Section 9 is the best mechanism for true public housing.
my west side opponent might have written this article, glad we agree on what the polls are saying !

@jackuno
1. You're opposing a project that will provide brand new permanently affordable housing for every NYCHA tenant plus tons of additional mixed income housing.
2. You claim to want "renovations" instead even though full renovations would *cost more money* than the current plan to rebuild the housing. plus NYCHA has a capital backlog of almost $100B
3. You have endorsed Layla Law Gisiko, one of the biggest NIMBYs in the city who rallied with republicans against the pro-housing ballot measures last fall
Reply Edit

Update: Jack Schlossberg is tripling down on NIMBY slop. hopefully he replies to my fact check

marklevinenyc Big News: @nyccouncil today approved what will be one of the largest residential buildings in the nation.
395 Flatbush Ave Ext in Downtown Brooklyn will no long be an (ugly) low-rise. It will become a tower with 1,200 homes, 25% of which will be permanently affordable.
