So all I’ve heard is 6 US serviceman have died on mainstream media. Whatever your opinions on the war, the tragic deaths of school children & teachers in Iran should be equally portrayed. @bbcnews-world-rss.bsky.social @nbcnews.com @nbcnews.com

Yes Tom you’re right, I aged mine as a 1w or 2cy but the East coast bird is clearly much paler and just checked is on RBA as a 2w. Should’ve checked that before! Well spotted.

Interesting looking at your pics, here’s a pic of the bird I had on Blakeney Point on 17th Feb not a great image, but surely a different bird. The bill structure and head to me feel obviously heavier!?

It was good watching the local Pink-feet earlier this week and not too difficult to find some nice Tundra Beans amongst them, especially when there was a total of 18 amongst them! Also 3 Russian White-fronted Geese with this group.

First winter/2cy Glaucous Gull

A good long walk yesterday down Blakeney Point with @mandymyers007.bsky.social proved worthwhile with a Merlin, Great N Diver and this beefcake Glaucous Gull on the end, which unfortunately got flushed before I could get some better pics, real chunky one with a colossal bill.

Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points

William Nordhaus received the Nobel Memorial Prize for these flawed economic models, and Bjorn Lomborg built a highly lucrative career on them.
They told rich and powerful people what they wanted to hear.
While helping to consign us all to catastrophe.

We have had multiple Yellow Weather Warnings and one Amber Weather warning for snow this winter covering our Peak District village. Snow depth peaked at about 7 cm with nothing on the last Yellow. Meanwhile images of yesteryear below... #ShiftingBaselines #ClimateChange

Remember her name: Aliya Rahman

Her testimony is everything and it deserves to be heard, by everyone. Decide for yourself.

It’s powerful. It’s gut-wrenching. And no one should have to survive what she did.

Out locally on the bike this pm. Rode past these fields with margins and cover strips, but might we be better off putting those subsidies towards educating #farmers on how to cut hedgerows? Plus not smash all the bramble down, a really important nectar source?

Great morning around Salthouse & @nwtcley
with Steve Lewis, Twite, Jack Snipe, lots of Red-throated Divers and a Pale-bellied Brent showing at point blank range. Some nice shoreline delights to be found too!

Accept that trichomonosis has been an issue, though is they’re evidence that it has killed millions of Chaffinch & Greenfinch. The article you were referring to deals with the increase of competition in species where generalists such as Blue, Great Tit & GSWP may benefit.

A Goldcrest perches on a plant showing its small size, olive plumage and yellow stripe on the top of its head.

Goldcrests might be tiny, but they can certainly travel a long way. A male Goldcrest ringed in Lincolnshire was caught alive 1,665 km away in northern Sweden 11 months later! #Winterwatch

This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Our landscapes & the food for our wildlife is so vastly manipulated it’s tricky to just come down hard on garden bird feeding. Plus the article doesn’t reach conclusions, it just raises questions of what are or aren’t the benefits.

Tricky to leave it here!? Interesting & relevant arguments/debate. But to give context Wn Europe has had massive artificial supplies of food from many sources over 60+years, benefiting certain sp. Sugar beet, winter stubbles, artificial lakes full of fish, refuse tips, fishing fleets etc 1/2

The general consensus amongst many of the respected birders here is that it’s a Taiga. I saw it today & was pretty amazed how small it was & wasn’t totally convinced. I’m going to bow to the combined knowledge of those birders, but it’s definitely a tricky bird! Very small, for me atypical bill.
