Once something gains any traction, the need to USE it outstrips whatever it originally meant.

This is a natural process; most specific terms morph into "thing/group I like/dislike" over time, (see "hippie" and "yuppie") but the sheer SPEED; a mere 6-18 months till specificity gets flattened!

I'm really struggling with how quick online usage is to erode slang for extremes down to norms.

"stan" just means superfan, no trace of stalking is implied

"simp" just means crushing, no trace of sexist "mediocre pussy" is intended

"boomer" just means old, nothing to do with a specific baby boom
