On 2-3 October 2025, we held our annual 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 in Vienna, convening 40 representatives from 24 of the network’s 40 member organisations for two days of discussion, exchange, evaluation, & strategic planning. Our Director, Barbara Steiner, provides the following report on the proceedings.

Manifesto of the Socialist Movement - transform!europe Michael Hauser reflects on the dissolution of the socialist movement and outlines a strategic reorientation in response.

We present the 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 by Marxist thinker Michael Hauser. This work emerges not only as a product of his long-standing theoretical engagement with the Left but also as a practical contribution to the renewal of socialist discourse in Central & Eastern Europe.

The speed and scale of the response from civil society organisations across Europe shows that the deregulation wave has raised concerns in big parts of society, who unanimously demand rules to protect people and the environment.

We warn that over the next four years, the Commission and EU Member States may dismantle rules that govern companies operating in the EU at a scale that will set progress on environmental protection, social rights, digital rights and climate policies back many years.

Tomorrow, EU Commission President will address the European Parliament with her ‘State of the Union’ speech. Today, civil society, trade unions, and public interest groups delivered a clear message to her, the European Commissioners, and EU Member States in a statement signed by 470 organisations.

After nine months under von der Leyen’s leadership, the European Commission is planning an unprecedented wave of drastic cuts to regulations protecting labour, social, and human rights, as well as digital rights, and the environment.
