A destroyed bunker entrance with the access to the destroyed hatch visible. The theme for #nerdlings is broken!
Since my picture yesterday wasn't necessarily as clear as I would have liked, here is a rough 3d model of what it actually looks like. The U shaped area is where the trench made of matches will be, likely with a doorway just at the end.

Part 3 is now available 😊

Using scrap wood is always good, some varnish to change the colour a bit is enough to give it a different look and the natural characteristics of the wood give it that amazing look. That actually looks really great and a good use of something that would be wasted otherwise.
Always happy to help! I will likely make a tutorial about the entire process to make the trench when I am done with it, so I will try to put those things in the blog post when I do.
I have used several ones, the results are similar. Some have a more clear finish in the end, but since I am going to paint over it, it makes little difference if it is closer to transparent or more white when it dries. Keep in mind that in humid/cold environments the glue will take a while to dry.
Thank you 😊
Based on what I have read, you can use something like Polyurethane resin to cover the styrofoam and prevent issues while painting, but PVA glue does roughly the same and is cheaper and more widely available.
I will add some air drying clay and other materials to turn the styrofoam into the surrounding walls/dirt, so the end result will not have the styrofoam so exposed.
I will be using PVA glue to glue everything together and I will also cover the styrofoam with paper to make the surface a bit more uniform, before adding the other things. Many glues will react with the styrofoam and just destroy it. The same for most spray paints.
In order to prepare the next steps, I have decided to make the basic layout of the trench with the styrofoam bits. The trench will be built along the central part and there will be a bunker on one of the ends.

Those are definitely the carvings of the ancestors!
Thank you. Yes I can certainly make smaller fortifications as well, especially if I don't make them closed like this one, but rather open with only 2 or 3 sides covered by wall.
Thank you!
Thank you! It also makes it easier to paint and store, so modularity is often a good idea overall. I am glad you like it 😊
Well the fact that I don't play doesn't mean I don't enjoy having nice things. Thank you for the compliments! I should be able to get about 5-10% of my infantry along the walls or inside the perimeter of this fortress.
As promised, some pictures of the layout I chose to make with all of the sections of the fortress. Unfortunately the carpet is not completely straight in all places, so some sections aren't tightly connected, but you can see how it works in practice 🙂

As mentioned yesterday, during the morning I painted the last 4 sections of my modular fortress and in the evening I glued the keypads and screens, so the entire fortress is ready. Pictures of the full set are coming!

Yesterday I finished the last 2 egg tanks that I was planning to build. This means that this evening I will start working on some terrain, so stay tuned for more updates on that 😊

Thanks!
Spent most of the morning painting the last 4 wall sections for my modular fortress. Paint is drying now, so in the evening I should glue the screens and keypads, so I can take some photos tomorrow. I should also finish the last 2 egg tanks this evening, so tomorrow expect lots of pics 😊
I started to wear glasses when I was 10, so I am quite used to them by now.
Well I am not old, but if I take off my glasses everything is blurry, so unless I am really close I will mostly see colours, rather than actual minis. I think too many afternoons reading books up close ruined my eyes 😐
Pre painted plastic minis can either look good or terrible, I think there really isn't a middle ground. Most of them are made to look decent from the distance, so they do what they are supposed to do I guess.
I think in this kind of hobbies you are never truly done. I started with three boxes of minis and roughly 50 individual minis over 7 years ago. Now I have over 6000 minis, most of them painted in my simple style, so always time for a few additions 😁
It is a modular fortress, so I can always add more sections later, so being done is relatively, but this week I will be painting the last sections I have planned for the moment. Stay tuned as I should have some pics to show in the coming days 😊
It is going to be a basic trench line with some terrain along both sides and potentially a small bunker on one end. I am thinking about adding some torn pipes along some parts of the terrain around the trench, to show that there is a war going on.
It certainly looks like some form of ancient writing, so I think it looks perfect for the role.
Since I should finish the assembly of the last 2 egg tanks this week, I have been making some plans for the trench that I am going to start next. I have some styrofoam for the overall shape and I should have enough matches for the wooden bits, lets see how it goes 😊
Thank you! I just primed them, so I should paint them tomorrow, which means that Thursday or Friday I might be able to take the pictures with the full set and some vehicles and infantry for size reference.
