Wonderful to learn that you use a fountain pen! I’m just south of Pittsburgh, check out one of our local fine ink and pen makers, Birmingham Pens. I love their pen and they have some nice ink colors. Family business.

It is such and insult in every way to send you that letter.

I want to give credit to Jamie, a former student who is now a master bench jeweler, for doing the nib repair. She used her laser welder to fix the stress crack and put an amazing finish on the gold nib. This repair couldn’t have happened without her.

Laser weld repair of cracked 14K nib. New ink sac. New pressure bar. Cleaned and polished. The old ink sac was mummified inside and had to be fully scraped out. The nib is very flexible with lots of line weight possibilities. #pen #restoration

I decided to add a high polish to the ends of the cap and barrel. Originally they were messy where the injection molding just ended.

Newest distraction, an old Wearever pen. This was part of a lot I bought online. Didn’t think much of Wearever, but it was an easy restoration and is a solid pen. They used to be the most produced #fountainpens, cheap, but solid. #fountainpen #pen

Flat out cutie

Lost my sweet girl a year ago today. Still heart broken. She was an angel who just showed up one day. I’ve never known a more loving being.

That’s what I’m getting into! I actually enjoy trying to restore them a lot. Started with my father-in-law’s Parker 61 he gave me. Then down on the rabbit hole! Lol.

You too can have the same lack of affordable health care as the US!

The body of the pen was so dull and scratched. I removed the heavy scratches and polished it. I was too eager to start to document how bad it was. It has a very springy 14k nib. Might tune it, but it writes well as is.

Sharing one of my favorite authors John Varley. Written in 1992, Steel Beach still holds up. This book is worth checking out for so many reasons, not least of which is the impact of technology on the human race. #blueskybooks
