If you read Bossel's analysis, based on the immutable laws of thermodynamics, it is clear that providing the necessary fueling infrastructure for hydrogen-powered aircraft is a non-starter. Read it for yourself: www.csrf.ac.uk/blog/hydroge... No engineer would pursue this if they knew the facts.
How much money did the USA spend on defense against the USSR during the cold war and how much is it spending on mitigating climate change? Which threat was higher risk?

In 2006, Ulf Bossel (founder of the European Fuel Cell Forum) calculated the massive amounts of energy, fuel, water, and CO2 that would have to be transported, to power the aircraft that use Frankfurt airport using hydrogen.. It simply can't work. Read extract here:

It was obvious 20 years ago that hydrogen was a non-starter for powering passenger aircraft.

My point is that there have been 4 incidents of hydrogen leaks of accidents involving hydrogen vehicles in the last month. The resulting air pollution from vehicle incineration is non-trivial; not to mention the danger to the public and the global warming effect of leaked hydrogen...

This is the way to do decarbonisation! Many thanks to Julian Fletcher of GWR for a fascinating visit.
The train is comfortable, warm (on a winter morning), and relatively quiet. It is currently in the last stages of a comprehensive testing programme that will lead to passenger operations early next year.
The train 'opportunity charges' its batteries in a few minutes, each time it gets to the end of the line. Deployable shoes underneath the train automatically connect to conducting rails and fast charge the batteries at about 600kW.
This is an excellent solution to electrification of many smaller UK train lines that would otherwise be too expensive to decarbonise.
This morning I had the opportunity to see, and ride on the Great Western Railway (GWR) experimental battery electric train at West Ealing in London.

Thanks Abigail. I will add this to my list of about 30 failed hydrogen bus projects around the world!
Boggles my mind... How can the German Government either be so gullible or have such poor due diligence! Good money after bad...
I hope all is well with you.

...there appears to be some hope that common sense science and engineering may ultimately achieve a better environmental outcome for the planet.
When we see the oil majors pulling out of major hydrogen projects; and Shell shutting down all of it's hydrogen refuelling stations in California; and the failure of dozens of hydrogen bus trials; and shutting down of major hydrogen-for-heating trials...
It isn't obvious how much difference the HSC's efforts have made, but the #hydrogen tide seems to be turning. The main reason seems to be that the economic realities of hydrogen projects are becoming clear to politicians, and their willingness to subsidize the hydrogen industry is wearing thin.
