Dozens of Labour MPS threaten rebellion over Mahmood migration crackdown Under new rules, migrants would have to wait at least 10 years to apply for indefinite leave to remain

Labour's changes to immigration rules, including potentially applying them retroactively, would be some of the most draconian anti-immigration policies in decades. They're the hostile environment on speed.
This is pure cruelty as policy, with absolutely no merit to them

โ€˜If I think about what this means, I want to cryโ€™: what happens when a city loses its university? When Essex Universityโ€™s Southend campus opened, it was a message of hope for a โ€˜left behindโ€™ UK seaside town. Its closure will be felt far beyond its 800 students, some of whom will not get their degr...

Excellent article but stark reminder that for all the perceptions of universities as ivory towers for elites, they are actually vital hubs in towns n cities supporting local businesses and providing key services as well as educationโ€ฆ.

Welcome to Britain, a country so short of dentists that an MP's 87-year-old mum pulled her teeth out with pliers. Also a country with thousands of foreign-qualified dentists who canโ€™t work until they pass an exam so oversubscribed itโ€™s like trying to book Glasto tickets. www.ft.com/content/f4e5...

Uni staff told in video call 400 jobs could go to save ยฃ20m More than a quarter of jobs at a university could be slashed in a bid to save ยฃ20 million, KentOnline can reveal.

Another day, another university in crisis. This time it's Canterbury Christ Church, to lose say 400 jobs and over a quarter of posts. The reality of what is happening in UK Higher Education - and even worse, what is about to happen - is crushing. I'm so sorry. www.kentonline.co.uk/canterbury/n...
