2 billion unique messages across 3,000 servers have been published in a dataset by a research group., Hi, @everyone. It is with great displeasure that I have to be the one to tell you that a research group has scraped over 2 billion messages ranging as far back from 2015 from over 3,000 publicly discoverable servers. There is near-to-no anonymisation done within this dataset. You can check if your server was scraped here: https://discord-dataset-checker.vco.sh/ The above tool will soon be updated to allow you to see if your messages specifically are in the dataset (it will NOT show you the messages). An extract from the paper: "The 3,167 collected servers yielded a total of 2,052,206,308 unique messages sent by 4,735,057 distinct users. From the total number of messages, 364,447,569 (17%) originated from bots. The data spans from Discord’s launch, on May 13, 2015, to December 17, 2024, when the data collection process began." You may read their paper here: https://arxiv.org/pdf/2502.00627 I can confirm that this has been flagged to Discord, and they are aware., For now, there is not much anyone can do aside from check if their server(s) have been impacted. I will keep you all updated as this progresses.
