24.11.2025 00:11 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This is a great list. I’ve already spoken of my love for “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” but “Saint Maud” is also a masterpiece— kind of a horror-adjacent companion film to Lars Von Trier’s “Breaking the Waves.” Bleak doesn’t even begin to describe it. Enjoy!

23.11.2025 17:41 — 👍 6 🔁 1 💬 2 📌 0This weekend’s reading has convinced me, with more certainty than ever before, that our collective decision to jettison the notion of cultural gatekeeping — whether because of ideology or through technology and algorithms — was an incredibly terrible, if unarticulated, decision.
23.11.2025 15:16 — 👍 11 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Never seen it put this way and it's really powerful.

23.11.2025 01:08 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yup. There’s a couple hundred pages of it in the first volume of Knausgaard’s “My Struggle” and it is — and I say this completely sincerely — absolutely riveting.
22.11.2025 23:34 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Ha! The Criterion Fairy is largely responsible for causing my wife to regularly ask — with no small amount of frustration — why we’re one of the only families in the world collecting physical media.
22.11.2025 23:28 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0I just found a copy of Fassbinder’s “Berlin Alexanderplatz” on Blu-ray buried in a drawer, and I genuinely haven’t the slightest idea where I got it.
22.11.2025 21:57 — 👍 9 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0I probably should have led with this.

22.11.2025 11:06 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Stream it on Apple TV, and give the money you would’ve spent on the Blu-ray to @lawfaremedia.org! You needn’t feel bad about robbing Peter to pay Paul!
(But don’t tell @criterion.bsky.social I suggested that.)
(And @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org, your “thank you” present is on the way…)
21.11.2025 20:29 — 👍 8 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0We — the site and people like myself — very much rely on your help. No donation is too small, nor will we turn away those with more ambitious contributions. We’re in a precarious time for our country, and this work matters now more than ever. Please support it however you can.
21.11.2025 20:29 — 👍 15 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0If my work on rule of law (and the amount of danger it currently faces) was helpful to you, I would implore you to make a donation to @lawfaremedia.org. @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org is committed to offering as many of these lifelines as humanly possible, but funds are not limitless.
21.11.2025 20:29 — 👍 20 🔁 2 💬 1 📌 0Having to leave the FBI was the worst experience of my life — I cannot overstate how heartbreaking that exit was — but the blows were cushioned by Ben’s quick offer of a landing pad. It enabled me to not only provide for my family, but also find a way to relate the public things they need to know.
21.11.2025 20:29 — 👍 22 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This week marks the end of my time as a Public Service Fellow with @lawfaremedia.org, and I’d like to thank @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org for offering me the opportunity to pass my time with a ridiculously sharp group of thinkers in the national security space while I figured out my next steps.

21.11.2025 20:01 — 👍 2 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0That’s how I feel about the Velvet Underground’s Max’s Kansas City shows.
21.11.2025 17:25 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The sheer obnoxiousness of remastering in stereo albums that were originally recorded in mono is actually emblematic of a lot of things; none of them are good.
21.11.2025 17:03 — 👍 12 🔁 0 💬 4 📌 0My recommendations were pretty fruitful. I’ve already read two of them, but that still leaves me eight titles to explore (between moving to a new city, raising a newborn, and generally navigating a massive career change).
21.11.2025 14:54 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Ex-intelligence officials with a decidedly center-right temperament are probably not @nplusonemag.com's target audience, but let’s give this a try. When my friends were involved with the journal, they threw pretty damn good parties. A modest donation for book recommendations is the least I can do.
21.11.2025 14:40 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This would not surprise me at all, but I think a big part of the shift in sound was a conscious reaction to just how popular they’d become with traditional song structure. If you’ve seen “Meeting People is Easy,” the tracks on “Kid A” and “Amnesiac” should be totally surprising.
21.11.2025 12:11 — 👍 6 🔁 1 💬 2 📌 0To be fair, having a spine and sense of integrity will doom even the conservative white men.
21.11.2025 01:20 — 👍 27 🔁 7 💬 1 📌 0Thanks! We got pretty esoteric in some of the historiography digressions, so I was worried listeners might tune out.
21.11.2025 01:14 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Perhaps rather than demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars, the senators could simply apologize to the nation for violating their oaths of office and lending rhetorical support to criminal conspiracies to overturn a free and fair election.
