This weekend’s reading has convinced me, with more certainty than ever before, that our collective decision to jettison the notion of cultural gatekeeping — whether because of ideology or through technology and algorithms — was an incredibly terrible, if unarticulated, decision.

Never seen it put this way and it's really powerful.

I just checked out that site; they have some real treasures.

Yup. There’s a couple hundred pages of it in the first volume of Knausgaard’s “My Struggle” and it is — and I say this completely sincerely — absolutely riveting.

Ha! The Criterion Fairy is largely responsible for causing my wife to regularly ask — with no small amount of frustration — why we’re one of the only families in the world collecting physical media.

I just found a copy of Fassbinder’s “Berlin Alexanderplatz” on Blu-ray buried in a drawer, and I genuinely haven’t the slightest idea where I got it.

I probably should have led with this.

This is giving off some serious "Danger: Diabolik" vibes, and I, for one, cannot wait.

That’s how I feel about the Velvet Underground’s Max’s Kansas City shows.

The sheer obnoxiousness of remastering in stereo albums that were originally recorded in mono is actually emblematic of a lot of things; none of them are good.

Perhaps rather than demanding hundreds of thousands of dollars, the senators could simply apologize to the nation for violating their oaths of office and lending rhetorical support to criminal conspiracies to overturn a free and fair election.
