Many instructional materials spend days/weeks and use needless materials to have students discover or prove Core Ideas. Discovering ideas is misplaced in K-12. The purpose of K-12 science is to support students in making sense of the world using the ideas scientist discovered

We have student work and video that illustrates the power of this in the classroom. By GIVING students the Core Ideas they can all participate and learn the Core Ideas through use and developing a useable understanding of science. We need to stop hiding these ideas form students

Last week at our #NGSS Summer Institute and over the past 7 years we have done this with K-12 teachers. It makes sense to teachers and allows all teachers K-12 to participate equally.

Instead of using #phenomena or activities to explain, confirm, or show science ideas we should use Core Ideas to explain #phenomena. @leadinsci.bsky.social @bscs.bsky.social @learningforward.bsky.social @openscied.bsky.social

The MS Science Curriculum Leadership Committee rolled up their sleeves & took a deep dive, developing shared criteria for science teaching & learning. The final product will help guide our work and decisions. Very proud! @msd-caputo.bsky.social @leadinsci.bsky.social @rvccngss.bsky.social

What a great day of learning with @leadinsci.bsky.social! Just like that, I started seeing the phenomena all around as my daughter asked “why are these two flowers popping up now?” #scienceeducation #ngss #phenomena

I can’t agree more. But then why do we punish students for making mistakes? @leadinsci.bsky.social

Students should be made to think, to doubt, to communicate, to question, to learn from their mistakes, and most importantly have fun in their learning.
