At the UC Davis CLEAR Center, PhD student, Sharissa Anderson is leading this early-life intervention study to see how one small bolus can make a big difference. Her work shows that even small changes early in life can have a lasting impact on livestock sustainability.

This slow-release bolus sits in a calf's rumen (first chamber of its stomach) & gradually releases an active ingredient that can potentially impact ruminal environment where methane is formed. By giving this bolus shortly after birth, we can potentially lower an individual animal's methane output.

Our team is exploring innovative ways to make cattle production more sustainable. At the heart of this work is a single bolus introduced early in a calf's life. π π
