Listeners may work out that Iโ€™m not sold on the name Panda Bears as a fighting unit - whatโ€™s a good name they should have been called?

Not all AVG squadron names were fearsome! While the Adam & Eve's 'first pursuit' works very well and the Hellโ€™s Angels sound the part, the Panda Bears are just too cuddly - Tex Hill had his badge personalised. I think the mostly New Zealand Buffalo pilots were some of the bravest men in the 1942 campaign - outnumbered and in obsolete aircraft, they do make a mark on the Japanese air attacks.

The RAFโ€™s role in Burma was defined by grit. 67 Squadron pilots like Vic Bargh fought in obsolete Buffaloes. Bargh once cleaned his oil-soaked windshield with a sock mid-dogfight before scoring a kill! Pure bravery in the face of the unknown #RAF #Burma #History

In an attempt to try & grasp the enormity that faced the airmen trying to navigate/land the airstrips my Grandpaโ€™s Chindit Cmd Pl built in the Naga Hills 1944, Iโ€™ve taken to the console.
Impossible in clement conditions let alone under fire in full monsoon. Next level piloting.

The cool vibe of the Flying Tigers was sometimes described as looking like theyโ€™d strayed onto a movie set. With cigars, Cokes, and Colt .45s, these privateers brought a unique brand of Americana to the Burma campaign. #FlyingTigers #WWII #History
