Someone lives in the real tree! It's full of walnuts that squirrels were snacking on.

This is like an ad for why tech can't replicate nature. From my local park, we're in a drought, and it's still nice and shady under the real tree...

I crunched the numbers on my not-very-scientific survey of why people don't plant native plants.

210 people answered this Q. I read through the comments & categorized concerns into 10 categories.

Most common reasons were
1) Lack of Knowledge
2) No Time
3) Money
4) No good source for native plants

Can we expand the narrative and definition of human development to include flourishing with nature? Our new paper in Nature explores such a vision, and outlines a metric - the Nature Relationship Index - to sit alongside the Human Development Index.

Today, PM Mark Carney announced the tabling of Bill C-5.

Its proposed process for projects deemed β€œin the national interest” would directly undermine environmental protections and threaten Indigenous rights, while shutting down democratic decision-making. ⚠️

Work weeks like last one are a dream. As part of the Beijer Institute's Young Scholar Program, I got to meet with brilliant scholars from around the world working on theories, models and cases to better understand, prevent and adapt to shocks in an increasingly turbulent world.

A sweet lil memory at least πŸ˜… Actually Katja and I were chatting today about trees and seasons and it reminded me of when you and I posted Fall colour updates on Twitter, we should start that back up for spring! 😊

U.S. research funding cuts change landscape for Canadian universities, researchers Canadian university researchers receive a relatively small amount of direct and indirect funding from U.S. agencies, but the cross-border research relationship is closely intertwined

Globe and Mail: BSE Prof. Elena Bennett says that "the rapid policy shift in the U.S. is causing huge uncertainty," and a project she is a part of--the National Nature Assessment-- was shut down after a WH executive order. "We got an email and we're done."
