There seems to be a fundamental misconception about journalists and the First Amendment. You don't get 1A rights in exchange for being accurate and impartial. The ideal of journalistic neutrality was inconceivable to the founders. Journalism in the 1780s was partisan! And they still protected it!

Heartbreaking to lose this artist
Yes, JD. Let’s ask them if they think a stay at home mom, avowed Christian, and widow of a veteran deserved to be shot in the face and left to bleed out in her own car after dropping her 6-year-old off at school, for the crime of looking out for her neighbors. Let’s ask everyone running for office.

Hi, fellow faculty teaching undergrads. As we are getting into law school application season, please encourage your students to interact with good data sources. Steer them away from USNWR. They should instead be doing comparisons through lawschooltransparency.com.
Congratulations to Brown University. An institution dedicated to timeless principles must not yield to temporary improper pressures.
Student government leaders of MIT, UVA, U of AZ, Dartmouth, UPenn, Brown, and Vanderbilt united in their opposition to the "compact" proposed by the Trump administration.
The Virginia Senate just told UVA it’s not getting state funding if it accepts the compact since UVA exists to serve Virginia, its residents, & their interests—not be a tool of the federal govt. I wrote about the “compact” for higher education

I am proud of MIT, where our branch of AAUP has voted unanimously to endorse this statement urging MIT leadership and the MIT Corporation to reject the Compact wholesale

I can’t believe I’m watching interviews of city mayors talking about how they are coordinating with other mayors to discuss how to protect their residents FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
I know we are “used to it” but it is absolutely insane
The New Yorker asked me “how bad” today’s Supreme Court ruling was. I boiled it down to one paragraph:

The #1 way to explain America working properly is by saying “comedians can make fun of he President on TV.” A good way to explain fascism is “the President forces companies to fire those comedians as a condition of allowing them to conduct business.”
And he vehemently wants separation of church and state. I hope you’re right
Yes, and income eligibility folks need “aid.” I’m really sorry to read about your elder care experience, from one only child to another. Sending you strength 🙏
This breaks my heart. I’m so sorry this is happening to him

Happy Mother’s Day.
This is a flower I saw yesterday on a hike; it reminded me of the strength of beautiful things even in harsh, inhospitable environments. Shine on, my friends. Radiate. Resist.

So proud to be part of the NYU Law faculty
