All of these experiences were factors in the realization that I am not alone in this field and that the many beautiful Indigenous and Latin American voices in STEM all fight for the same mission: To uplift one another and make our voices heard.

Most impactful of all for me were the keynote speakers who preached resilience, perseverance, and boldness in the face of those who seek to silence and oppress us underrepresented scientists in STEM. Their emotional talks resonated with me and are engraved in my heart.

During the expo hall and research presentations, I was able to network with many undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals in the field who were passionate about their research and openly willing to help me find the right grad school program or faculty to connect with for information.

Their determination to cultivate professional and welcoming chapters for their members was inspiring and telling of just how amazing every one of them are.

Now that I experienced the familial love SACNAS has for its members, it's clear that the impact it has had on me extends beyond my academics. During the Chapter Officer Leadership October Retreat (COLOR), I connected and bonded with many chapter officers from schools all over the country.

Last week, I had the privilege of attending the NDiSTEM conference for the first time in Columbus, Ohio, along with faculty advisors and members of the UH SACNAS chapter. Before attending, I had no real expectations for what I would get out of this event or for its impact on my academic career.

On Monday, we had the honor of hosting the esteemed Dr. Philis Barragán Goetz to discuss her work on Escuelitas and the Emergence of a Mexican-American Identity in Texas! We loved getting to discuss her award-winning book and look forward to keeping up with her future works! 🫶🏼

Today is #indigenouspeoplesday and we’re celebrating the Native scientists who are doing fabulous work and inspiring us every day. One of the most important messages of Indigenous people’s day is that WE ARE STILL HERE 🔥 driving science, art, health, and community forward 🙌🏽

Yesterday we were so fortunate to be present at the @hmns.bsky.social 3rd annual Indigenous Culture celebration! To celebrate, we emphasized that indigenous people were scientists since time immemorial. 🔥 thank you also to Roni Cabrera-Moreno for allowing us to display her beautiful artwork!

Earlier this week we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with UH and other fantastic Hispanic Serving organizations and departments on campus! We’re so proud to also have had several of our students give presentations on their research in Spanish 🥳🤩

This day of Action, our fellow Sacnistas had a great time demo-ing science experiments for families who visited the Holocaust Museum Houston! We are grateful to have partnered with the Bonuik Center to make this happen!

Happy Pride Month!🌈This month SACNAS would like to celebrate LGBTQ+ representation in STEM. Pride is celebrated in June to commemorate the Stonewall Riots and the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement. SACNAS values providing an inclusive community for students of all backgrounds.

Members had a blast working with the UH Physics department and the Texas Center for Superconductivity at the Cougar Summer STEM camp! They conducted various physics demos for middle schoolers and advocated for those interested in learning about STEM.

This month, SACNAS is celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community and will spotlight members in the STEM field! Happy Pride Month!
