🧠 How does your brain mature over time?
HHMI Freeman Hrabowski Scholar HaoSheng Sun is exploring the genetic timing mechanisms that guide the maturation of the nervous system.
Congrats to all the poster winners, especially @shelbynlauzon.bsky.social and @dcpatterson0713.bsky.social representing @uabcdib.bsky.social! #Worm25
Presenting 2 poster at the same time was an interesting experience that I shouldn’t do again.😂 Big shout out to my copresenters (Dalton and Audrey) that helped me navigate last night, you are both rockstars!! #Worm25
Serhat Turkmen and Ly Luu will present their work on the role of bacterial food sources and fatty acid metabolism on 🪱 development, physiology, and behavior (963C).
Ananya Theneti, in collaboration with Gabbi Prince, will present their work on establishing a model of early life stress in 🪱 and examining the role of neuronal communication in ELS's effect on neuronal maturation (782).
3 more posters on the last full day tomorrow (Tuesday). Molly Reynolds will present her work on the role of electrical neuro-communication, namely inx-19, in post-embryonic neuronal maturation (754C).
Busy day 3 at #Worm25! 5 posters presentations and a lab lunch!
Shelby and Dalton will be serving double duty and present their optimization of the INTACT protocol, as an alternative to FACS/FANS, for fast and semi-automated nuclei isolation of specific cell types for bulk and single-nuclei gene expression and chromatin landscape analysis (501B).
HeeKyung Lee will present her work examining the role of chromatin modifiers/remodelers in learning and memory across development (504B).
Dalton Patterson will present his work on the role of alternative splicing in post-embryonic nervous system maturation (530B).
Prince Mosley, will present a second poster on behalf of #TeamCocaine, their efforts to establish a paradigm of chronic cocaine treatment in order to better understand cocaine/substance use disorder and possible inter-/transgenerational effects (713B).
First up, Shelby Lauzon and Audrey Gilbert will present on behalf of #TeamCocaine (also including Prince Mosley, Elizabeth Eason and Ian Shen) their work using 🪱 to understand conserved mechanisms of acute cocaine exposure (500B), in collaboration with @csybio.bsky.social
Fantastic Day 2 of #Worm25. 2 amazing talks by Gabbi and Craig, and 1 fantastic poster by Amit. 5 more posters coming at you on Day 3.
Favorite moment of the day: "Do Genetics" -Nobel Prize Winner Gary Ruvkun #worm25
Later that night at the poster session, @amit25uab.bsky.social will present his work on using AlphaFold and Deep Learning approaches to predict and de-orphanize neuropeptide-GPCR pairs, inspired and building off of previous experimental validation work from Beets Lab (603A).
In parallel, Craig Peters will present work he started as an undergrad examining the role of cell-intrinsic timers, specifically LIN-41, in the maturation of the nervous system during the adolescence to adult transition (Genetics I, Conf. Center Ballroom) chaired by Brandon Carpenter and myself
First, Gabbi Prince will present her work on how cell-extrinsic factors, specifically chemical neurotransmission, regulate post-embryonic nervous system maturation (Neurobiology 1 Session, California Hall, 9:06AM). Check out all the other great talks in the session including @csybio.bsky.social
Fantastic 1st opening night of #Worm25. Excited for the 1st full day (Sunday) tomorrow...Sun Lab has dueling ⚔️ talks in the 1st parallel sessions between #TeamGeneticTimer vs. #TeamEnvironment as well as a poster at night.
Time flies. It has been 10 years first my first IWM! Can't wait to introduce the next generation of scientists to the amazing 🪱 community! Sun Lab members have worked hard and are ready to share their science at #Worm25. Stay tuned for daily preview of work that will be presented at #Worm25
Before they officially leave the lab, you can catch the amazing work that they have done in the lab at #Worm25. More on that in the coming days!
End of an era for the Sun Lab! Molly Reynolds and Ananya Theneti, the last two of the first cohort of undergrads are leaving the nest! 🥹It has been incredible to see their growth as young scientists, and I cannot wait to see them continue to flourish in their careers!
Super fun and invigorating visit by the incomparable Victor Ambros as part of @uabcdib.bsky.social trainee-selected Michael Miller Memorial Seminar! Amongst the chaos of the world, it was a good reminder of the reasons and motivations that got us all into research in the first place 🧐🤓
Sad to not retain @csybio.bsky.social in the US but so incredibly excited for what’s to come! Run, don’t walk, to get in on the ground floor of some really exciting science!
So fun to host @csybio.bsky.social at UAB this past week!
hanging out this week with @mus-elegans.bsky.social , so much great science and vibes at UAB! tbh what even is a neuron? we shall find out!
So sad to miss you and rep the worms at ACNP this year! I had a conflicting meeting, hope y’all are having a good meeting!
By no means an exhaustive list of, but here is a list of #wormSky #Celegans or related researchers that will enrich your feeds!
Please repost and reply with others that you recommend as well!
