We published a signal-to-noise analysis of AMOC observations in GRL. TLDR: Direct observations (RAPID) of the AMOC do show a decline in line with climate model projected weakening (~1 Sv/decade) but the noise is still very large in comparison to the signal. Paper: doi.org/10.1029/2025...

On DY186 Maria De La Fuente Ruiz is measuring ocean oxygen levels. This is important as oxygen is an indicator to the health of our oceans.

As sea temperatures increase, oxygen 'dead zones' can be created because warm water cannot hold as much oxygen. This can prove deadly to all marine life. πŸ§ͺ⚠️

Chris Cardwell is an Electronic Engineer who is working on a prototype remote telemetry system for use on the RAPID moorings and in the wider oceanographic community.

Outside of the current expedition, he is found developing novel oceanographic sensors, samplers and observing systems.

Being an RSE isnt always just sitting at your desk. This week I aided in the deployment of the RAPID 26N WB2 sensor mooring for monitoring the change in the AMOC by optimising the tools used to verify and log the sensors going on to the mooring, all whilst aboard RRS Discovery.
