This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

It’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

All of these bootlegged copies of the 60 Minutes segment flooding my feed (saying, ‘Watch it quick! Before it disappears!’) makes me feel like I’m in the Soviet Union and just got some black market foreign newspaper I need to hide under a floorboard in my house.

This is where America is now

A textbook example of killing the messenger.

Russ Vought’s cultish anti-science fervor will not slow or stop climate change. But it will help blind us to what’s coming. And how to stop it.

Way to limit and compress the missions of both programs. Sad.

This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power by the President of the United States.

America is on the brink of martial law.

Do not be silent.

Environmental innovations are pivoting out of necessity. I am grateful for the brave leadership of people doing these things, and bless them if they make a lot of filthy lucre.

MAGA does not understand that the joke is on them, and that every accusation against Newsom is a confession about Trump.

An editorial cartoon of MLK standing in front of chaos and wreckage with the words, "I plan to lead another non-violent march tomorrow"

Posting this 1967 Birmingham News editorial cartoon for all the people who don't realize that this is how MLK was viewed by a big chunk of white America.

Fully agree. I’ve had people in my life who are mentally ill post screeds like this. Where is the alarm and discussion of mental decline?

War is when the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.

Can't be overstated how fucked up it is that Black folk came up with a word to express people being aware of the oppression of other people and it's now targeted by far right governments globally as something evil that must be destroyed
