Today, we are debating an issue that is dividing Finnish society and is topical across Europe: how to deal with the need for increased immigration and the concomitant issue of language skills of immigrants. The debate will use inclusive bilingualism in English and Finnish.

Threats to academic systems are not uniquely Dutch. Across the globe, we see regimes dismantling those equipped to critique them, disrupting the cosmopolitan academic space that resists nationalist and xenophobe policymaking. This calls for solidarity and even more cosmopolitan worldviews! 4/

Valtaosa ‘ulkkareista’ (kauhea sana!) haluaa oppia suomea, mutta tavalla, joka on sopusoinnussa heidän uravaiheensa ja täysipäiväisen työnsä kanssa.
Entä miltä sosiaalinen elämämme ja osallistumisemme suomalaiseen yhteiskuntaan näyttäisi ilman suomen kieltä? Joustava monikielisyys on ainoa ratkaisu, jos meidät nähdään myös ihmisinä, ei vain työvoimaresurssina.
Tämä olisi hienoa, ja tämäntyyppistä kielenkäyttöä koskevia suosituksia on olemassa, mutta niitä ei koskaan noudateta käytännössä.
