“Here’s a truth to reckon with: neither Israelis nor Palestinians are going to disappear any time soon. No one can destroy their respective claims to a sovereign state in their ancestral homeland, which happens to be the same land.” www.ft.com/content/d871...

This was a labour of love and sweat equity by the filmmakers who made this film independently financed. Arvet is very proud to be a part of this journey.

Huge win for YouTube and huge loss for Netflix - very interesting take here by @eshap.bsky.social
The other view could be a huge win for Netflix - who have now officially open the curtains to live streaming sports and wait for it… the gambling industry. Thoughts?
Decreases this legacy IP to ”a straight to video” basket. And that was not good when that happened back in the day because it meant bypassing the theatricals and straight to dvd release where you would pick it up in the supermarket bargain bin. Netflix risks becoming just that for legacy IPs.
20.10.2024 08:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The Narnia IP recreated through Greta Gerwig’s vision who is a huge fan of the cinema is kind of bittersweet that it’s going to Netflix. This deal misses the enormous impact it would have if it went to theatricals first. It kind of cheapens the value of this legacy IP to ”a straight to video” basket. And that was not good when that happened back in the day because it meant bypassing the theatricals and straight to dvd release where you would pick it up in the supermarket bargain bin. Netflix risks becoming just that for legacy IPs. I would say, beware the rights holders of legacy IPs - you risk giving pearls to pigs to a streamer whose business model is based on global market dominion where we stay inside alone together and possibly lose the fellowship of humanity rather than build community and love of human experience by sharing some extraordinary experiences together. The very basis of CS Lewis’ principles. Ironically. The Narnia IP will only have true meaning and value of its impact to an audience that is familiar with C.S Lewis books and a new audience that might not have discovered it yet, in a cinema experience. And the fans of Greta Gerwig will come in droves especially after Barbie. They will watch and engage with the IP and experience for these reasons alone. You can market around all these different synergies. Human data in IRL and not a secret vault Netflix algorithm that tells us ” Narnia is the number one film/ series globally right now” Who cares?! None of us are there together to witness this moment with movie ticket in our hand as the box office metric - the only hard data that is available and transparent. But none of this will happen without a theatrical release because this drives the community and fans of the franchise to gather for it. Instead, Narnia will be buried on the Netflix strip - busy, noisy and with a million neon lights flashing all at once - like Las Vegas.
