Not a bad start!

Revisiting THE IRISHMAN for the first time since its release in 2019. I liked it a lot then, but it's fair to say that I absolutely adore it now.

I'm in the midst of packing. On November 9th, I'm moving into what will be the nicest apartment in which I've ever lived. It's in Camarillo, about 45 minutes north of LA. So it's close enough to the madness but still quiet and suburban. Cannot wait to set up my new writing den!

Haven't watched it yet. Decided to revisit the OG first.

It's a chilly, rainy day, so I'm revisiting this 80s cheese classic directed by my old friend Kevin Tenney. It's a passably decent exploitation film that taps into the Satanic Panic of the 80s in a reasonably fun way. Not to mention it features Tawny Kitaen in her Whitesnake era.

I really dug it. Not at all what I was expecting, but that's a good thing. Most of the crew did their best acting here, and a LOT happened to build up the overarcing story of "Gods and Monsters" in the DCU. Curious how close he'll stick to what Salvation was really meant for in the comics.

Loved the PEACEMAKER season finale, which clearly sets up SO MUCH for Gunn's DCU. As a comic nerd, I instantly geeked out when I heard the name "Salvation." And even moreso when Checkmate was formed. These two instances are definitely a big clue for what happens next. Can't wait!

Had to drive out to Irvine for a work thing this morning. This meant me leaving at 5:30 to avoid traffic. FML

Mom took me out today for a belated birthday lunch at El Coyote. My favorite place, it's one of Hollywood's oldest Mexican restaurants. It's also the last place Sharon Tate ate on the night the Manson Family got her. So my true crime and horror loving self adores it. Great ambience, marvelous food.

Last night's PEACEMAKER really gave us proof of John Cena's acting chops. It's long been known that he excels at comedy, but his dramatic acting is really quite something. Loving every bit of this new season.

So let's see... guy shoots immigrant detainees, then suicides. Suddenly, the right claims he's a crazed leftist. Patel says anti-Ice statements were on the bullets. We see the bullets, and on only one, WRITTEN IN SHARPIE, are the literal words "ANTI-ICE."

Really?? You've gotta be fucking kidding.

Loved that film when I saw it theatrically. I need to revisit soon!

Finally caught up with WEAPONS last night. It's like MAGNOLIA meets the darkest Grimm's fairy tale. Legitimately unnerving and disturbing, it made me shout several times and is one of the very few films in ages that swept me up from beginning to end. Director Zach Creggar is the real deal.

Took Mom to lunch at Marie Callender's. One of her childhood favorites. Yes, the chicken pot pies are still superb. As is the chocolate satin pie. Tastes of a bygone era.

Ate a rattlesnake and jalapeño sausage in Atwater Village last night. Rattlesnake is often chewy and not overly flavorful. This, however, was just delightful. Better I take a bit out of it than it taking a bite out of me!
