1980 (26 eps)

The very first anime TMS ever made that was 100% an original work. It tells the story of the revived battle between Mu & Atlantis after the leader of Mu sealed Atlantis away in another dimension 30,000 years ago & return.

This... actually sounds kind of wildly amazing.

The Adventures of Gamba
1975, 1984, 1991 (26 eps+ 2 Movies)

An Osamu Dezaki-directed cult classic based on a novel by Atsuo Saito about mice who fight back against weasels to reclaim their home. TMS had nothing to do with the 2015 CG movie that did see release in English as Gamba 3D & Air Bound.

Judo Sanka (Ode to Judo)
1974 (27 eps)

Another Ikki Kajiwara manga adaptation here, this time with artist Hiroshi Kaizuka, & shows the trials & tribulations of a young kid who wants to be a judoka. Notably, the lead's master goes on to become his ultimate rival, so maybe this influenced G Gundam?

Oh, I know about MGS4's various flaws, & I even got spoiled of the big, major twist at the very end of the game long ago.

Still, it's a game that I really should play, if only for the experience.

The Battle Royale movie is coming to North American theatres this October 12-13 and 15, in Japanese with English subs and in 4K.

The screening will include an interview with Kenta Fukasaku, Battle Royale screenwriter and the son of the movie’s director, Kinji Fukasaku.

This does remind me that I've actually never played MGS: Peace Maker, though, so I really should finally get to that one day.

And then I can finally move on the MGS4 & V, too, which I've never played either.

I have a New 3DS XL, so I have the biggest (native) screen possible to play MGS 3D on, but even here I felt that the screen was just too small at points. The FPS view for shooting was still shockingly good, & I could get headshots somewhat consistently, but this really was more of a case of...

Just finished playing that new Metal Gear Solid 3 remake everyone was talking about recently... hey, wait a minute!!!

In all honesty, though, MGS3D is definitely an interesting little semi-remake (since it uses Peace Walker's updated engine), but while it was a technical marvel the 3DS isn't ideal.

“Yaiba of all things got a remake” first of all the Yaiba remake whips ass and is fun.

Not quite on the "long OP" claim. The first one was "Crazy Rainbow" about 100 episodes earlier, as they removed ED sequences during Water 7/Enies Lobby.

You could certainly argue that "Share the World" is the first "long OP" that was truly "iconic", though.

1973-1974 (48 eps)

Based on the 70s baseball Jump manga by Ikki Kajiwara & Ko Inoue, about a teenage boy whose wild pitching skills gets him added to the Yomiuri Giants' roster. The anime is seemingly a bit different from the manga by featuring a lot of events based on Giants history

Koya no Shonen Isamu
1973-1974 (52 eps)

Based on the 12-volume 70s Shonen Jump manga by Noboru Kawasaki, which itself was a heavily expanded remake of a 1952 manga by Soji Yamakawa. A relative rarity for anime in that it's a straight western, though starring a young Japanese boy in the wild west.

Akado Suzunosuke
1972-1973 (52 eps)

Adapting the jidaigeki manga from the 50s & 60s by Tsunayoshi Takeuchi (though originally created by Eiichi Fukui), this anime featured a ton of future anime legends on staff, like Yoshinori Kanda, Yoshifumi Kondo, Hayao Miyazaki, Toshio Hirata, & Noboru Ishiguro
