Thoughts about Wednesday (s.2): Steve Buscemi looks like he is having the time of his life in his role, and I fell madly in love with Billie Piper during her Penny Dreadful turn as Brona Croft/Lily and will watch her in anything. I'm totally here for the Morticia/Wednesday mother/daughter plotline.

I’ve spent the last 3 days in the grip of a terrible stomach virus. I’m feeling a little better tonight and I’m going to try and eat a little dinner. Prayer circles are appreciated.

We open for submissions Aug. 25! We love ourselves some anti-authoritarian fiction. Check out COYOTE RUN by @lilithsaintcrow.com because it’s a romp, a bop, a bloody revenge tale where the fascists get that sweet punch in the face they need

Book cover - two women in 18th century highland dress stand back to back, surrounded by the brooding presence of straw men. The atmosphere is menacing.
Text - Mairead swallowed and looked back to the wisp, still hovering in front of her face. It made the same sound again and bobbed impatiently. Slowly, she lifted her right hand, palm upturned until it was just below the wisp. The wisp settled onto her palm, setting her skin atingle. The flame felt neither hot nor cold, but it made the skin of her arm rise into goose

bumps, and a shiver wound down her spine, bringing cold prickles in its wake.
The wisp made the noise again, a series of notes this time that was almost a tune. Sparks flew from it to whirl around it before sinking into Mairead’s hand. She felt them merging with her, the magic of them touching her own. Suddenly her heart was overflowing with gratitude though she had no idea what the wisp had actually done. She was surprised to feel tears escaping from her eyes and trickling down her cheeks.
β€œThank you,” she whispered, not sure what she was thanking it for.

Cover art by Ben Baldwin shows a lethal, pale-scaled serpent-dragon or wyrm lurking in woodland. It looks straight at you as its forked tongue flickers between open, sharp-toothed jaws.

Book extract reads: The shuck moved too, and I shifted my feet to stay behind it. The great black shadow’s hackles bristled along its hunched neck and shoulders. I couldn’t see its head, but I could hear it was snarling. Strings of shining drool from its open jaws hit the leaf litter with a hiss.
Being behind the shuck did make it harder for me to see the bloodthirsty bitch’s next move. I’d caught a glimpse of her crooked fingers when she’d tried to attack me. There was something odd about her hands.
I took a quick sidestep to get a better look. β€˜What are you holding?’
She quickly tucked her hands behind her back. β€˜Come here and I’ll show you. And call off your dog.’
β€˜No chance,’ I told her. β€˜Fuck off back to whoever sent you here. Tell them to leave my family alone.’
The shuck growled and shifted its coal-black bulk as she tried to move towards me.
β€˜Coward.’ Her laugh sent shivers down my spine again. β€˜If you want me to leave, you’ll have to make me.’

Dan Mackmain has found unexpected allies, as he's dealt with collisions between the everyday world and the supernatural. Are the menaces he's frustrated banding together as well? That's an unnerving thought.

Caleb already had Lucian convicted and hanged, but the constable wasn’t proving trustworthy himself. When they examined the golem together, the fading glow around each of the wounds indicated strikes by a Citadel blade. Caleb had to know the truth even without seeing the insignia on Lucian’s scabbard. Yet he insisted Lucian had used Mastema’s power to create and then destroy the creature. Did he believe she was so taken by the daemonium she couldn’t analyze the evidence before her?
A shadow rippled in a far corner of the nave. Her father's ghost stepped from the darkness, leaving wet footprints in his wake. β€œThat dog don’t hunt, does it, baby?”
No, sir. That dog be lying. Placing Lucian’s blade on the altar, she struck a black mark in Caleb’s column.
The stove’s metal door screeched when he closed it. Rachael shivered. Her vision blurred, and when she looked again, her father’s ghost was gone. She took a ragged, shallow breath and unbuckled her sword to lay it beside Lucian’s. β€œGive me your sword.”

I'm 61, and if I hadn't had my knee replaced last summer, I never would have been able to have done all that I did this summer. I'd like to at least get all the painting done this year and then after that, I'll have to hire someone for the rest.

I'm okay with walls, molding, and cabinets right now. It's one of the reasons I'm doing it now, b/c my hands are beginning to go bad. I'm going to have to hire someone to do the ceilings. The ceilings in the whole house need to be done and ohboy but that's going to be $$$$$.

I'm taking my time picking colors for my living room. I spent the money for large color blocks that I can move them around the room during different parts of the day. I'm going for a French country house feel to the rooms. Wish me luck.

The thing I didn't realize when I started this project was how much lighting affects the color. The napery has a high LRV, which makes it perfect for my molding and cabinets. It also reflects well with the color I picked for the wall, but it was a time-consuming trial & error process.
