Here it comes! "The Dead Man's Empire", the long-awaited second book in the Holy Mountain series! Is it a sequel to "The Last Blade Priest"? Yes! But in theory you could read it without reading TLBP!

The second obvious piece of didacticism on this list, this time in the near future SF form. A hopeful but not completely unmoored vision of rewilding and climate adaptation over the 21st century from the perspective of two women involved in activism and documentary filmmaking respectively. The β€œoh how did anyone think land tenure was compatible with sustainability” and β€œas you know, we realised X was bad in 2050” bits are obvious, and a little on the nose. But it works, because Swift has an extraordinary light touch with prose and character. The end result is a moving vision of a world we could hope for if enough of us are just a little bit better than current events might suggest.

EJ Swift - When There Are Wolves Again.

Is the current moment one where we could really do with a hopeful but not implausible vision of the back half of this century? Yes. Is such a vision better if it's written in beautiful prose and with a light touch? Also yes. If you want that, read this.

Sorry to be repetitive, as I know I've mentioned this before, but Blackwell's do an AMAZING deal for people outside the UK, with free international delivery: blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/sea...

Nothing iffy about it. And I'm told by people who've used them that there are no extra tariffs or taxes.
