Exclusive: Prior to Iran attacks, CIA assessed Khamenei would be replaced by hardline IRGC elements if killed, sources say In the run-up to the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Saturday, the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency assessed that even if Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the operation, he would likely be replaced by hardline figures from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), two sources briefed on the intelligence said.

With the Olympics done, my time at The Post is also done. It’s been an amazing five-plus years. The people I worked with weren’t just supremely talented, they were also great humans. This was truly a dream job and I’m eternally grateful I got this opportunity.

And I’ll be keeping my WaPo subscription because while what happened was horrific and nonsensical, there are still great journalists in that building doing essential work. This country needs them, especially in these times.

Jose Mourinho sank to a new low with absurd and offensive claims about Vinicius Junior Mourinho was, in effect, telling Vinicius Jr that he didn’t hear what he says he heard, which was alleged racist abuse from a Benfica player

I have a longstanding dislike of Real Madrid and therefore Vinicius Jr., but leave it to Jose Mourinho β€” here excusing racism and blaming the victim β€” to be even worse www.nytimes.com/athletic/705...

What if I told you some of its treasures had vanished?

What if I told you that I found them?

I think the guy in the lede is demonstrating a counterpoint to the Turning Point stuff, but I guess my meta point is that what you didn’t like about the story may BE a result of the layoffs, but because they were very disruptive in the newsroom, not because of some ideological project or ignorance

08.02.2026 16:41 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, that’s true, he maybe would have been best focus for the story. The backlash doesn’t seem totally fake, though, even if it’s cynical β€” there are people who aren’t going to watch the halftime show, because they think (wrongly) that Bad Bunny isn’t American or because he spoke out against ICE.

I didn’t work on it and I’m on my last few days at the Post, but I thought your (admittedly funny) post was a little unfair to the people who did

08.02.2026 16:27 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

But it is also a piece about the broader politics of immigration, including the fact that Turning Point felt compelled to organize a counter-show because of a backlash against Bad Bunny

08.02.2026 16:25 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

One of the reporters on that (good) story about the reaction of some conservatives to Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican. I think this is more likely a subhead that could maybe have been written better if someone hadn’t decided to unceremoniously cut the staff in half a few days ago.
