26.02.2026 17:23 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0With the Olympics done, my time at The Post is also done. Itβs been an amazing five-plus years. The people I worked with werenβt just supremely talented, they were also great humans. This was truly a dream job and Iβm eternally grateful I got this opportunity. And Iβll be keeping my WaPo subscription because while what happened was horrific and nonsensical, there are still great journalists in that building doing essential work. This country needs them, especially in these times.

Before The Washington Post slashed a third of its newsroom, Jeff Bezos rejected Will Lewisβ initial layoff plan in a previously unreported meeting, Status has learned. Meanwhile, a Bezos confidante has re-emerged behind the scenes.

Thinking today of this statement Bezos made in 2019, when the National Enquirer tried to blackmail him with compromising photos. See the highlighted portion below, about his "unswerving" support of The Post's mission.

I think the guy in the lede is demonstrating a counterpoint to the Turning Point stuff, but I guess my meta point is that what you didnβt like about the story may BE a result of the layoffs, but because they were very disruptive in the newsroom, not because of some ideological project or ignorance
08.02.2026 16:41 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, thatβs true, he maybe would have been best focus for the story. The backlash doesnβt seem totally fake, though, even if itβs cynical β there are people who arenβt going to watch the halftime show, because they think (wrongly) that Bad Bunny isnβt American or because he spoke out against ICE.
08.02.2026 16:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I didnβt work on it and Iβm on my last few days at the Post, but I thought your (admittedly funny) post was a little unfair to the people who did
08.02.2026 16:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0But it is also a piece about the broader politics of immigration, including the fact that Turning Point felt compelled to organize a counter-show because of a backlash against Bad Bunny
08.02.2026 16:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0One of the reporters on that (good) story about the reaction of some conservatives to Bad Bunny is Puerto Rican. I think this is more likely a subhead that could maybe have been written better if someone hadnβt decided to unceremoniously cut the staff in half a few days ago.
