The world of the games is now a full blown fantasy setting with gods and dragons and creatures that eat mountains and burn hotter than the sun, but life goes on as normal. The only mark they have on civilization is the sport of monster battles. It feels like the pokemon don't physically exist

This was kind of excusable when the earliest games portrayed pokemon as newly discovered mutant creatures and cryptids, but now its clear no normal animals exist in the setting, and any new waves of creatures are depicted as existing with people "off screen" in different countries the whole time

I think one of Pokemon's greatest failings is how, despite every animal being magical, the world is pretty much exactly like our own. I feel like a world where rats with laser eyes etc roam the streets at night would've eliminated homelessness tbh
