This is the same Bureau of Labor Statistics that overstated the Jobs Growth in March 2024 by approximately 818,000 and, then again, right before the 2024 Presidential Election, in August and September, by 112,000. These were Records — No one can be that wrong? We need accurate Jobs Numbers. I have directed my Team to fire this Biden Political Appointee, IMMEDIATELY. She will be replaced with someone much more competent and qualified. Important numbers like this must be fair and accurate, they can’t be manipulated for political purposes. McEntarfer said there were only 73,000 Jobs added (a shock!) but, more importantly, that a major mistake was made by them, 258,000 Jobs downward, in the prior two months. Similar things happened in the first part of the year, always to the negative. The Economy is BOOMING under “TRUMP” despite a Fed that also plays games, this time with Interest Rates, where they lowered them twice, and substantially, just before the Presidential Election, I assume in the hopes of getting “Kamala” elected – How did that work out? After today's "larger than normal" revisions of the May and June jobs reports by the BLS, the picture is clear. Job growth is slowing, so is economic growth outside insane AI capex spending, and new tariffs are raising inflationary fears.

Maybe but the question is what is the elevated inflationary rate they're afraid of. Fed Funds rate is 4.25%-4.5%, I think they've got room to cut 0.25% at the next meeting. Biggest thing is you don't want to get caught offsides by the bond market and the yields collapsing today are giving them room.

Weak demand for the long-end of the yield curve is something of a global issue, as our age of uncertainty scares a lot of people away from just stashing their money away in a government for 20 or 30 years. But there's definitely a Trump angle to our long-end problem. sherwood.news/markets/the-...

What today's move in the bond market tells us is that

1. The Fed is cutting rates in Sept
2. Short-term economic growth is a serious concern
3. But Trump's tariffs are still applying inflationary pressure
4. There's still not a ton of demand at the long end (20 and 30 year) for US government debt

Base interest rates for everything, and interest rates are better described as the cost of money. Trump thinks Powell sets them, but the Treasury market ultimately does. They're expressions of future expectations of growth/inflation, and also demand for government debt.
