I've been more on the permissive side of things as far as AI art / copyright issues have gone... but this Studio Ghibli thing feels different somehow. Studio Ghibli just had this major viral / cultural moment and yet a different company got all the profits. 🤔

“The thing that I can’t get over is that the actual richest man in the world directed my fucking firing. I make $50k a year and work to keep drinking water safe. The richest man in the world decided that was an expense too great for the American taxpayer.”

The left absolutely had cultural dominance for most of the last couple decades. See: media, Hollywood and basically all other major cultural institutions. (And it was better when the left had it, to be clear! But there’s no sense pretending we didn’t have it.)

Do you think the Silverdale Farmer's Market knows how obvious it is their logo was made by AI? 😅

I’d heard rumors of a tiny Microsoft satellite office in Kitsap before. It’s real! I’m surprised more tech companies don’t do this for people who want a cheaper / quieter place to live but are still within occassional commuting distance of their main office.

It’s crazy that there are still intersections that look like this in Seattle, in 2024.

This is… new. What’s the deal with these bright lights on top of a downtown tower? Looks to be a couple blocks south of pike place market.

One of the pathologies you see in a lot of punditry/discourse is some implicit assumption that in a deep sense Democrats *should* win every election and when they don’t it shows how bad they are, or how annoying libs are of whatever. But America’s a pretty conservative place!

This sounds exactly like the Giant Asian Hornet watch group that WSDA set up. “I think I saw one” … nope.

Seattle recycling faces 'unprecedented challenges' as bottle maker closes Utility officials say glass recycling in the Seattle area faces “unprecedented challenges” as the region’s main manufacturer of glass bottles shuts its doors.

“The Ardagh Glass Packaging plant in Seattle’s Duwamish Valley shut down temporarily in July and permanently in November. The plant, a property of Luxembourg-based Ardagh Group, laid off 245 workers.” www.kuow.org/stories/seat...

I’ve been answering questions over on Instagram (here’s a truncated version of one answer to fit here) and here’s the truth: our country is never going to succeed if half of the population doesn’t see themselves in the future as presented by the other half. That’s where we are.
