Wouldn't say the Central Coast is an upgrade from that at all, but beachside means seabreezes. Fuck I'll take *those* any time you like compared to inland Sydney. ๐Ÿซ โ˜€๏ธ

Nowhere near the beachside at C-town though (technically Shelly Beach is a separate suburb to Bateau Bay tho). That's a slight diff. Meh. ๐Ÿ˜‚

To be fair, the "normal" Zone Bowling spots (they dropped the AMF licence ages ago - "zone" as in Timezone who own all that) are still more reasonable than their upmarket Kingpin ones - if you buy multiple games

just... AU$20 for the first game is *ouch*, even if it's only $8 for extra ones usually

It's "quaint" to see how the likes of the old-school centres line up compared to the rising power of the names of Strike and Kingpin/Zone Bowling, being called "dated" and such

Comparing centres focused on general "entertainment" to those as much focused on the *sport*. Big difference.

The other big "odd vibes" thing, though it would've been more so in the 90s than now, is that the tenpin centre at Bateau Bay has been co-owned with the independent one at C/town for decades.

Even down to the old Astro Lanes name, so I learned today. *That* name reminds me of my tadpole years... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Parts of Bateau Bay seem to feel like a half-mirror of Campbelltown to me for some odd reason.

The Bay Village mall (now standardised by their owners under a "square" name) was a 1985 open... maybe this explains this gap in the wall of the Coles there. Guessing it was a Super K-mart early on?

And the European folk (due to their tradition of decent often-included continental breakfasts) tend to do a good "cold" section of their brekky too even if there's hot food available... I miss that a hecking lot in Australia, I can't hecking do bacon and eggs every day ๐Ÿซ

Aah, that explains why the flight into CPH - it's much closer to Mรคlmo than Stockholm or Gothenburg is, heh (as long as the border isn't half-closed)

Have fun! The Scandic hotels are usually pretty decent up there, and NFC I'm sure'll be pretty decent as always

That throwing away of course caused a minor hassle on the way to 2025 that eventually saw the trumpet-blowing lion abomination last election (as you can't de-reg and then re-reg the same party in one cycle at federal level)

But he ain't done yet obviously. Ugh.

Advert at the bottom of the front page of the Sydney Daily Telegraph from Clive Palmer (technically authorised in personal capacity, but using his signature yellow-and-black style used in prior elections), with mirrored photos of himself on either side of the text:

"Clive Palmer says, 'Congratulations [new Liberal leader] Angus Taylor, captain of the Titanic'... changing deckchairs on the deck, never changed anything"

For those that put all their far-right ventings in one (nation) basket: Clive says hi. ๐Ÿ‘‹

Of course he's a subject matter expert on the Titanic, so I guess he can use that expression.

One forgets that he throws away his party structure between elections.

Gosh the 2028 poll's gonna be a shitshow ๐Ÿซ

plus the AFL knows they make heaps more renting Docklands out to the likes of Ed Sheeran for three or four guaranteed 60k sellouts, rather than a complete unknown about whether people will care about open-age rep footy any more

On that part, in a national comp, the jury's still well out ๐Ÿค”

There's also practical reason as to why it's likely such an early event is to take place in Perth or Adelaide (if SA chips in), even beyond govt money flowing to AFL coffers

if in Melb in Feb, they'd likely have to hold it at Docklands

and that just seems wrong from a Big V tradition standpoint ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Not that I'd blame the ARL commission for actually doing that, given the continued existential meaning it gives Queenslanders for whatever reason, which makes them an absolute motza compared to anything else

A full West Syd stadium with 30k in regular season is great, but it's not 80k at the 'G

Trademark nonsense sorta felt like it prevails a bit now. They just call it "[AFL] Origin" and... I wouldn't be surprised if the 25+ year passing of a proper state game ("Big V vs The Universe" type games like 2008 don't count) that rugby league snapped up the full "State of Origin" name as IP

17.02.2026 05:26 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

As much as it feels as lost in the calendar as the NRL indigenous all-star game, it seems like the AFL state match would... at least give some happy faces at WA Tourism for putting money towards it

or rather they have an English page available but it's not like the service status is in English

The Scandi languages refer to public transport as "traffic" so the "traffic information" page on dsb.dk would be what you'd be needing to translate for service messages

I think (from translating, their site is only in Danish) they said that the line was only part-suspended, with trains short-turning a few stations short and not running all the way to where you were

They said it was getting back to normal by 13:00 (so an hour ago from this reply), so.

Guess the gag can be made as to whether TikTok's the right sponsor for that

Not for the controversy, and not for its content (it did start as a performing-to-music type thing)

but whether they expect a TikTok generation to sit through a long show without the ability to swipe down every 5 seconds ๐Ÿ˜…

16.02.2026 12:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Although the added curiosity that it's now the TikTok *Entertainment Centre*, restoring a name lost a decade after the closure of the original 80s-era "Ent Cent", in the area now redeveloped as Darling Square

I'm actually not too bothered by *that* development, as much as it'll take time to adjust

16.02.2026 12:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Wandering Sydney city can provide some interesting ponderings.

The convention centre's Sydney Theatre finally got a sponsor after two years without one (previous sponsor was a super fund company)

That said... the naming rights sponsor is TikTok. *UGHHH.*

Can the mid-2020s sod off for one moment ๐Ÿซ

It might have ads still but at least it's local ads. For somewhere like Goulburn that's like... I've heard what, lawn growers, horse stuff, and the local hunting (gun/archery) shop or something? I guess that works ๐Ÿ˜…

Capital is far from the only one doing it; what's left of Grant also was trying a narrowcast recreation of the old 3GL around Geelong

My feeling though is these are still far more "Forever Classic" than the 80s/90s stuff they've had to move the likes of GN/XL-FM further toward, in recent years ๐Ÿซ

16.02.2026 10:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 1

on the other hand, as someone who'll always find the old-school Jukebox Saturday Night type mixes better than the more modern equivalent "Party Mixes"... it's kinda sad to realise the times have gone so fast. The initial sounds of Elvis, The Beatles, etc, are now sixty years old and counting.

Fuck.

16.02.2026 10:49 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Kinda decent that the Capital Radio stations found spots to keep their true oldies stuff on narrowcast/DAB with the mainlines moving with the times

It *is* kinda interesting how a few places have managed to suggest 60s/70s music listeners are so off the scale that it's allowed on narrowcast...

Bugger. The S-trains are apparently cancelled on that line (for now) due to a track points fault, their site says? Rough to lose out on that 10 minute frequency though

16.02.2026 10:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I mean, *you* try carrying one of those 3-metre buggers on your back

In a different world, I'd probably have a Squarial on the back my head or something ๐Ÿค”

I dunno, full armoured or rubber or leather gear just looks wrong with skin-exposed sheath*; change my mind ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

* expressed as such as I can deal sometimes with it when it's covered in the target material itself, but often it still doesn't look right to me...

Just makes me wish that I didn't have to do as much leg-work for stuff that gets myself going as it eventually does

Or feel like I can be groups that share that type of stuff without feeling like a meat market (sadly, that's not surprising a thing, just from a biology standpoint) ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

Old-school analogue tech is "necessary" when the new-fangled 5G and wifi doesn't f***ing work ๐Ÿ˜‚ *snicker*

besides, the player is an 80s model.... the shork is a lovely slimmed-down version of the drone that would've had to be in an armoured suit previously, just to be able to carry the weight and size of the f**ing 10ft diameter C-band dish on it ๐Ÿ˜‚
