They're labeling each other cruel names based on reading habits, harassing authors and bringing up their personal life because they didn't like an ending, measuring people's intelligence based on how they read... Aye 🤦🏾‍♀️

There are booktokers who make it a trend to drag a certain trope or genre or series for months on end. Mind you this is all to earn from the Creator fund. They drag in order to make new profitable content. They take a small issue within the book and turn it into the author being horrible

I saw a booktoker throwing a book in the trash on fire because they disliked it. And they were praised. I don't know... but that hurt my heart. When I was a teen I 🙏🏾 for books. I didn't have a lot of access to them. If me & my friends didn't like a book we didn't record ourselves burning it

Another thing is the first video I saw when I rejoined booktok was someone saying "dear writers, no one wants to read your STANK books anyway. So don't suggest them in my comments!" (It's not the message... It's the way booktokers praise condescending tones. & writers aren't even allowed to respond)

I guess the last straw for me was there was some1 who claimed they were reading a book in public & someone asked how they liked it. They said they didn't (which is fine) & it turned out to be the author. Readers in the replies were coming up with ways to further humiliate the author on the spot. (1)

I don't believe tiktok is a healthy platform for writers...not anymore. To be a bit dramatic...booktok has fallen. You won't feel nearly as shamed or harassed or dog pilled and mocked on bookstagram or booktube. Even as a reader it's gotten a bit...weird.
