man, how much i miss tuning in weekly for agatha all along

most of us do, even if we are prepared for it, i feel like

it's just not a sustainable system, and it gets more glaring and unequal the more you get working class people as phds and the worse the work conditions and job prospects get

it just becomes this glaring issue

again, it's never a good thing to end or reduce the size of humanities programmes, it's usually a sign of bad times

we need them more than ever. but i think about working class students who try to make it in this cruel market. i'd rather not have them waste 4 years of their life for nothing.

unfortunately not everyone gets to be an academic, not everyone gets a stable contract with a university, not everyone can employ or transfer skills to the industry

it's a difficult decision, but it's more honest to do this than selling false dreams to phds who will not get anything in return

but obviously you can't think like this in a vacuum, since these are programmes in the humanities

cutting research in the humanities hurts everyone, but how can you sustain a system that simply does not benefit phd students and graduates in the humanities?

there's not enough jobs for everyone

for a very pragmatic reason i will say one thing

phd programmes employ people as cheap labour without any realistic and safe job prospects after they finish their degree

it sucks for research, yeah. but it sucks more for the phd graduates who get their degree and have no job prospects
