Here Rose uses the Guard of the Knee, a two-handed rapier guard that seemed to be popular enough in the mid-17th C that several fencing master wrote and ranted about it.

As you can see… Zero Fun was Had. 😂

We decided to lead into the Thanksgiving holiday with a little goofy and silly fencing fun, by exploring the odd and unique aspects of historical fencing.

The Art of Classical Italian Saber!

Classical fencing with the Italian smallsword, foil and saber is in Sundays at 11:30am in Somerville, MA.

Our group rapier classes happen on Tuesdays at 6pm and 7:30pm in Belmont, MA.

Our rapier crew continued their exploration of feints last week by feinting off of a blade pressure.

Pressures have various uses. Here the team are using it give themselves more breadth to feint without blade contact and to augment their opponent’s anxiety by further taking their point off line.

Day 2, we looked at countering Italian fencers, secondaries like rapier & dagger and sword & cloak, and ended with some pedagogy.

Day 1 was all about the fundamentals, looking through a few Destreza sources.

Simple Feints or Ain’t game. One fencer feints or straight thrusts. The other tries to read if it’s a feint or real attack. If it’s a feint, the fencer should ignore it. If it’s real, they should parry.
