Our protest made the NYT: “In the suburbs north of Chicago on Friday morning, protesters unfurled banners in opposition to ICE along on a highway that leads from a naval station that is being used as a staging ground for the federal government’s operations.”

This is really amazing and sweet

As usual, @jamellebouie.net sees the big picture. “If the president cared about crime, he would push House Republicans to restore the $1 billion Congress cut from the city’s budget, so that Washington could fully staff its Metropolitan Police Department and pay for the services and personnel …”

But one of the agents opened fire. The agents accused the driver of trying to run them over and claimed two were hit. The video clearly shows no intent to hit nor that any were hit.

ICE is lying. They fired a gun on unarmed US citizens.

A few thoughts about today's protests:

1) The April 5 Hands Off day of action clearly ranks as one of the very largest mobilizations in U.S. history, by two different measures:
-- total national turnout (~ 3 million)
-- number of local protests (~ 1400)

At last Sunday’s Trans Visibility rally in Chicago, police lined the route about every 15 yards w/ others on bikes. At today’s Hands Off rally, cops were much more spread out and I didn’t see any on bikes. Were police really that much more afraid of trans people? Or some other explanation?
