Transit Equity Day Photo of Rosa Parks against the backdrop of a bus.

Without the ability to move about freely, we don't have freedom at all. That is why desegregating public transit was one of the most important strategies of the Civil Rights Movement; and why we recognize February 4, Rosa Park's birthday, as Transit Equity Day.

As we start #BlackHistoryMonth, I’m thinking about one of Cleveland’s most famous sons, Jesse Owens.
His performance at the 1936 Olympics in Germany offered a stunning rebuke to white supremacy – reminding us that simply showing up can be a great act of resistance.

Mayor Frey said today that what's happening in his city isn't a Minneapolis problem, it's an American problem. As Americans we all have a responsibility to speak truth to power and defend our freedoms.

Our Governing Agenda for the Cleveland ERA My second-term vision for Cleveland and its people.

Last Thursday was supposed to start with a second-term ceremony. Instead, Cleveland got a snowstorm.
And honestly — that felt right.

Leadership isn’t about the stage. It’s about showing up, doing the work, and delivering for our people when it counts.

On this day 53 years ago, the Supreme Court issued the Roe v. Wade decision, establishing the federal right to an abortion.

Nationally, we no longer have that right. But in Ohio, we organized & enshrined abortion rights in our state constitution.

We have the power to come together to defend our freedoms. It’s important to remember that.

Mayor Bibb!

"One of the things that we need in every city is political power. Enough of our parents don’t register and vote. Each of you should serve as a committee of one to work with your parents if they have not registered to vote and other people in the community.

Cleveland, Ohio, is a city that can be the first city of major size in the United States to have a Black mayor and you should participate in making that a possibility. This is an opportunity for you.

And so there are things that all of us can do and I urge you to do it with zeal and with vigor. And let me say to you, my friends, that in spite of the difficult days ahead, the so-called white backlash — which is nothing but a new name for an old phenomenon — I’m still convinced that we’re going to achieve freedom right here in America. And I believe this because however much America has strayed away from the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, the goal of America is freedom. Abused and scorned as we may be, our destiny is tied up with the destiny of America." Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. April 16, 1967 at Glenville High School

Today, I’m reflecting on Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1967 address to students at Glenville High School. As we gear up for the 2026 midterms, his words are prescient. Together we have the power to protect our freedoms and shape our destiny.

Cleveland tries to stop auction of 14 troubled apartment buildings near Shaker Square Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb is urging Fannie Mae not to sell a foreclosure judgment to the highest bidder next month. The city wants the properties transferred to nonprofits or a local developer.

This is why we created the Residents First program, so the city can step in & turn problem properties into places that provide quality, affordable housing that anchors neighborhoods. We know Cleveland best, so we need Fannie Mae to step aside.
