The party Moldova Mare which the Electoral Commission had banned from the race on Friday (for illegal Russian financing, among others) is still on the ballot papers, as judges are still examining the appeal.

#Moldova Over 1 million people have voted in the country & the diaspora. As expected, several destabilization attempts have been reported to discredit the voting process. Cyberattacks on official websites, and now bomb threats in major polling stations in the EU (Rome, Brussels, Bucharest…).

Over the past 2 weeks, the IGP has conducted 200 searches and arrested 9 individuals for electoral corruption, illegal party financing & money laundering. IGP chief Viorel Cernăuțeanu said most corruption attempts were observed in the autonomous region of Gagauzia, followed by northern districts.

In just the past two days, the CNA carried out 120 searches targeting members of pro-Russian oligarch Ilan Shor's team, who are suspected of channeling “illegal financial means” to provide “unauthorized support to political parties.”

Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean accused the fugitive oligarch of “impeding” the extradition process to avoid standing trial over the $1-billion bank fraud case. Plahotniuc has repeatedly claimed since his arrest in Greece last July that he is voluntarily seeking extradition.

The reasons remain unclear, though they may be linked to a parallel investigation in Romania, where Plahotniuc is under probe for forgery. No official reason has been given thus far. Plahotniuc's lawyer said he and his client hadn't been informed of the decision.
