These damn teenagers and their new fangled slang!
Playing with ChatGPT a bit and decided to see what I would look like as a beanie baby.
As in a quick response to a simple statement or request which shows that you have heard and understood.
"We have to leave by 8pm."
"Heard"
"I'm making tacos for dinner."
"Heard."
"I'm going to the store."
"Heard."
"I need more water."
"Heard."
"Can you turn out the lights?"
"Heard."
I propose that everyone adopt saying "heard" in everyday life, just like in the service industry.
Most people are scared because they don't know the limits of what we can do w/ DNA. Many fear things that just aren't currently possible, like cloning humans or creating enough artificial DNA to plant at a crime scene. I'll admit we don't know future possibilities, but nothing currently worries me.
At this point, there really isn't much anyone can do with SNP data that is truly nefarious. The most serious threat is determining risk for certain diseases and traits, but even then many countries have laws protecting consumers (like GINA in the US and GDPR in the EU).
A few more photos.
#RootsTech2025 is now over, but it was such an amazing time! It was so great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I'm still hanging out around SLC today and heading home tomorrow.
Fangirl moment with @geneavlogger.bsky.social and @dnapainter.bsky.social

Also testifying right after him: Josh Taylor of the NYG&B!
TONIGHT: (Thursday Feb 6th, 5 PM ET):

I recently saw The Breakthrough on Netflix, a mini-series about a double-murder in Sweden which was solved using Investigative Genetic Genealogy. I made a review video discussing what they got right, what they got wrong, and breaking down some of the information in more depth. youtu.be/mKL215bfBGc
Starting in about an hour and a half!

I didn't exist yet, but my sister was being born when it happened and apparently a nurse ran into the room to scream "It blew up! It blew up!", freaking out my mom because she thought they were talking about the baby.

Ditto to what Sue said. I have minimal experience with South African records, but I believe MyHeritage has some unique SA records in their database as well.
If you were suddenly transported back 100 years to 1925, how far would you have to travel to find your closest ancestor?
In 1925, I had 16 ancestors who were alive. My closest ancestors would be about 450 miles/724km away in Philadelphia, PA, where my grandfather Simon lived.

Mine may actually be @tastinghistory.bsky.social at a distance of 19th cousin 5x removed. @iammrbeat.bsky.social was pretty close at 19th cousin 3x removed.
