I never know what to say in these. (But Keane and Cerian fans, say hi!)

(And, like, so far beyond the point, I know, but like…. Things are dire enough in the books, but not naming Padma and Parvati, just listing the characters together as “The Patel Twins”?)

What would you recommend for someone who had essentially that same meal for, like, at least half their meals this week?

a woman in a dress is standing in front of a microphone with her arms outstretched and says bless you all . Alt: A moment from the film Singin’ in the Rain. Wearing a silvery, spangly dress, Lina Lamont (played by Jean Hagan) is standing on stage behind an old timey round microphone, finishing up a speech by saying ‘Bless you all,’ complete with a showy, grand, and insincere gesture of her arms.

My brain filling in the blanks at the end of your post:

Yes, absolutely get the other books. All three books are in the ever-growing to-reread pile, as it’s been *checks Goodreads/Storygraph stats* nearly 14 years since I read them.

Oh, this is a great book! I’ve been considering a reread this year.

I didn't come here to make friends. Unless, of course, you want to be my friend. In which case nothing would bring me greater joy

I hate this generally, of course, but I hate this specifically for you two.

To this day I am still flummoxed by this. I don’t know that I’ve ever had that kind of split reaction to something.

I had such a weird experience with RoS. Walking out of the theater, I hated most every storytelling decision that was made, and yet…

…I had a good time watching the movie. I even saw it a second time in the theater, still hating the story with every fiber of my being but really enjoying the movie.

Washcloths like this are great for beginners. They’re pretty quick to make, they’re functional, and still work with errors in them! If you fear you’ll end up with too many, save the squares and sew them into a blanket later.

Scarves are good, but they can take forever to knit to a decent length.

I mean, it *is* a pretty nearly perfect pop song....

Yeah, the adjustment time is usually hard.

That said, my sister has been letting one of the neighborhood ferals come in with her, and the other four cats have mostly tolerated him. I think the biggest fight was food-related.

two men in suits and ties are standing next to each other . one of the men is wearing glasses and a bow tie . Alt: The scene from “Singin’ in the Rain,” right before the musical number ‘Moses Supposes.’ The elocution teacher is demonstrating the Moses Supposes tongue twister, and he’s way too excited about it. Cosmo Brown (played by Donald O’Connor) is standing just behind him and acting a fool, making silly faces behind the elocutionist’s back, managing to placidly arrange his face as the elocutionist turns to look at him at the end of each phrase. Now we get to the actual moment of the gif. It’s the last phrase of the tongue twister (“[as Moses] supposes his toes-es to be”), and Cosmo is making his silly faces behind the elocutionist’s back. The elocutionist excitedly turns to face Cosmo on the tongue twister’s final word, but instead of a neutral, normal expression, Cosmo has lost the plot and makes a silly, exaggerated sort of buck tooth face. They hold for a beat, presumably somewhat startled by the whole thing, then Cosmo fixes his face while the elocutionist pulls back, affronted. Aaaaand scene. (In the film this leads directly to the start of the ‘Moses Supposes’ number, which is a fantastically choreographed tap routine of controlled chaos and well worth the time to find the clip of and watch.) (“Aaaaaaeeeeee!”)

Murder on the Orient Express is one of the two I've read (I *love* the Dan Stevens-narrated audio book; the performance is amazing).

I'll definitely check out the others, though.

How To Play 'Strange Room' with Tim (Piano Tutorial) YouTube video by Keane

This has part of my bedtime playlist for a long while.

Tim speaks in a gentle baritone. The piano is pretty soothing throughout, I think. If you don't know the song, then you wouldn't even be supplying words to the song.

A left-field suggestion, I know, but...

Yes, you had mentioned A Murder Is Announced as being a favorite before, so I had already tagged it as a contender. Thanks!

That's the first one I ever read! First read it as, like, a 10- or 11-year-old, I think. I read it semi-recently (like, last ten years or so) via the Dan Stevens-narrated audio book.

I don't feel like you're asking for advice, but is it okay if I offer a random suggestion for a (to me soothing) talk-and-piano video?

There are a ton of Agatha Christie things on sale today (only?) for Kindle/Kobo, and I’ve only read two before and have often thought maybe I should read more, but I don’t know where to start. Can we call this the @starinthetitle.bsky.social and @clairewillett.bsky.social signal for recs?

Well, I am honored by the follow. I always enjoy when your husband posts have appeared in my timeline.

I salute your restraint and self-control in not using the Keane key ring, and I hope you have the pleasure of a key ring of your own with a similarly satisfying and reassuring weight to it.

Congratulations to those who celebrate this wonderful day.

Also, every other day is also Transphobes are Trash Day, I forgot to mention that.

I think I’ve just come up with a nice New Year’s Eve tradition for myself: rereading @keaneofficial.bsky.social ‘s Hopes and Fears book while listening to the music. I did it last New Year’s Eve, and I did it today.

A straightforward way for me to end the year on a good note.

A screenshot of a Timblr post by 5yearoldalien that says, 'I'm listening to Christmas music and something just went wrong in my brain during Silent Might and I heard the lyric as "Christ, the savior is born" and I can't stop laughing help" followed by the tilted laughing with tears emoji. The Tumblr tags read as follows: #personal #lol #i'm dying #CHRIST #THE SAVIOR IS BORN

The image was saved December 25, 2023, at 8:46 PM Eastern Standard Time. The Tumblr screenshot indicates it was posted 23 hours before that.

Thanks for sharing these. 💜 I feel like I saved some back in the day, but it wasn't on my phone and therefore backed up to Google Photos, so they are currently out of my reach. Just gotta find the right hard drive.

Meanwhile, I was thinking of Raq all last week because of this 2 year old banger.
