I used to be scared of dogs as a kid and I can't believe I'm looping back around. But random dogs shouldn't come and jump on me and scratch me even if they are friendly, and snapping at my arm or my legs is completely unacceptable

This wasn't an issue pre 2020!!! There were a couple Known Dogs but one was on a muzzle, and the other was mostly reactive at my dog (still a problem). My dad and I have both been attacked multiple times in the last few years!

Anyway I'm angry and I hate my legal name and I've been trying to go by something else ever since I was 3 and it has never stuck with anyone except close friends

Not to mention how many people in the wild will be like "oh your real name is X! That's such a prettier name, I'm calling you that!" or if someone already has your preferred name as a name then you have to switch back.

Universities will use your legal name. Sometimes you can have a proffered name but then your email and your student ID has it, and if a prof has an old list you're full legal name in that class forever, and your TA students have your legal name.

Seeing those posts talking about how in past generation people would go by an unrelated name. Thing is, it's a lot harder to do that nowadays because everything is ID based. You apply to a job with a preferred name, HR gets your legal name, they put it on everything that's it.
