If useless information were dynamite, I would be a weapon of mass destruction. I will mostly be posting items from my collection of comic book and Pulp magazine images. Other stuff and nonsense will no doubt ensue.

Revealed at last, why the miraculous hidden MedBed in the "news" of late is being kept secret.
They seem to have a major side effect, and those who use it are taken... somewhere else.

Best Detective Magazine, January 1933.
Most of the covers for this magazine from Street & Smith were dull; however, this one, with a figure resembling a saint of crime sowing vice, followed by death, is impressive.
Itโs like itโs an icon for a holiday that Iโm not aware of.

Cover of Marvel Stories pulp magazine, November 1940 issue. Bold yellow title โMarvelโ dominates the top, with โFiction That Thrillsโ beneath it. The main art shows a pilot or equipment operator and a woman in a red dress, looking terrified, held by purple alien soldiers who approach from behind via a circular portal. The left side banner advertises stories inside, including โQueen of Venusโ by John Russell Fearn and โThe Man Whoโ by A. Fedor and Henry Hasse.
A black-and-white comic page titled Marvel Comics Presents, from the November 1940 issue of the pulp Marvel Stories. A short-short one page comic story featuring the Human Torch. The panels show the Human Torch, and the police commissioner discussing how to stop traitor organizations and โfifth columnโ threats. They investigate suspicious activity, receive a call from a squad car, and rush to join in. Instead of fifth column activity, they find that it's kids making a clamor to get the latest issue of "Marvel Comics".
I recently realized that the one-page promotional Human Torch comic in the pulp Marvel Stories Nov. 1940 contains a reference to the legendary Human Torch vs Submariner battle in Marvel Mystery Comics #9 (or more accurately, issues #8-10), which ended about 3 months prior.

Cover of the January 13, 1885 issue of Journal des Voyages et des Aventures de Terre et de Mer, No. 914. The illustration for the featured story LโAmant de la Mort by Henri Coudreau shows a dramatic cliffside scene at sunset. A woman in a flowing black gown with long hair stands on a rocky outcrop, one arm raised in a commanding or mystical gesture. Below her, a bare-chested man with long hair, dressed in primitive or tribal attire and carrying a tomahawk, looks up at her in awe or fear. Rugged cliffs and a moody sky frame the tense moment. Caption below reads: โElle lโarrรชta dโun geste et, ce jour, elle parla.โ ("She stopped him with a gesture and, that day, she spoke.")
LโAmant de la Mort
1895: A legend of the Kalina people of French Guiana, told by explorer Henri Coudreau
A son of one of their gods wished to live on Earth & became mortal. He fell in love with the spectral figure of a beautiful woman, realizing too late he was seeking Death herself #phantomsfriday

01.08.2025 17:20 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0November 15, 1884 Police Gazette illustration titled "A Ghost on the Rail." An express messenger, startled and recoiling, fires a revolver at a spectral figure resembling a man in a wide-brimmed hat and long coat. The ghostly figure is semi-transparent and surrounded by gun smoke. Scattered money packages fly through the air, and a tipped-over chair emphasizes the shock of the moment. The caption below reads: "The apparition that haunted an express messenger who, in the line of his duty, killed a train robber."
The November 15, 1884 Police Gazette contains the story of Wells Fargo express agent Aaron Ross, who killed a would-be train robber near Monticello, California, and was thereafter said to be regularly haunted by the ghost of the man he killed, reenacting their gunfight. #phantomsfriday

Seems there is a Soviet-Cuban "Red" Western based on Mayne Reid's The Headless Horseman that came out in 1973.
25.07.2025 20:50 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 1Cover of Beadleโs Dime New York Library, Vol. I, No. 8, featuring the title โThe Headless Horseman: A Strange Story of Texasโ by Capt. Mayne Reid. The illustration shows a dramatic night scene of a cloaked, headless figure riding a horse across a barren landscape. The riderโs poncho covers the neck where a head should be, enhancing the eerie atmosphere. The sky is dark and ominous. The dime novel, published by Beadle & Adams, is priced at ten cents and marketed as "Complete in One Number."

The Headless Horseman

Not inspired by Sleepy Hollow. Set in Texas in the aftermath of the Mexican-American War, this is inspired by Texas Ranger Creed Taylor's story of El Muerto, giving rise to the legend of a headless, spectral ghost rider. #phantomsfriday

Found in the 4th and last issue of Johnny Law: Sky Ranger in 1955, I wonder if anyone sent in 25 cents, did they feel cheated and so decided to shun the aero-police and related ilk on being cheated, maybe not, but before you know it, itโs 1965 and kids are going crazy
I blame you Johnny Law!
Johnny Law: Sky Ranger, was a shot lived comic that appeared in 1955, Johnny and his side-kick were so squeaky clean you could have eaten off of them, but donโt do that because Iโm pretty sure that would have been a major violation of the Comic Code of Disapproval in force by then.
