✋ Former USG war crimes lawyer here.
Apropos of SecDef's remarks this morning:
Denial of quarter—even the declaration of no quarter—is a war crime.
And recognized as such by the US Government.
From DoD's Manual for Military Commissions.
For years, decades, I relied on BBC News first on shortwave and more recently through their app, as a reliable source of information. But, no, I'm not going to subscribe to read it. The commodification of information from a government-controlled source is a non-starter with me.
"Let's not bicker about whom killed whom. This is a happy occasion!"
we should make American voters get a tattoo on their arm that says DON'T TRUST THE REPUBLICAN PARTY because otherwise they're basically all that guy from Memento every second election cycle.
Alabama Senator Tuberville posted today that Muslims are the enemy.
Please read this piece about how his state of Alabama is treating Muslim prisoners. boltsmag.org/alabama-exec...
Trump bails out Putin. An excellent graphic.
Here's a new one: ICE detained a man in Utah who had been arrested for a suspected drug sale ... that turned out to be dried pinto beans.
Utah case was dropped but the man, who arrived in US as a minor and has deferred action, was transfered to ICE.

A central tenet of MAGA is that Jews aren't people, they're tools, and accordingly their value derives entirely from the utility they provide MAGA.
I like how the money guys (Bessent and Wright) are out here being like, E-Z-P-Z, Navy gunna step up. But everyone at the Navy is like, uh, no.
*BESSENT SAYS NAVY WILL ESCORT VESSELS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE: SKY

We've gotten numb to it, but what Trump/Hegseth is now doing to Anthropic—and what Trump did to the law firms—are not just tantrums, they are impeachable abuses of power. They are, in effect, executive branch bills of attainder. ...

A Haitian asylum seeker detained by ICE died after being refused timely medical attention for a severe toothache.
At least 40 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office — a two-decade high.
The monstrous cruelty of Trump's police state knows no bounds.
Global policeman definitely not out correcting the world’s wrongs.
they are spending a lot of money that used to go to flu vaccine campaigns etc. on whatever this is
very complete

Civil authorities, from the Congress down to local committees, might well require such tests; but military officers can never have the power to do so, as “there can be no liberty where the military is not subordinate to the civil power,” says Congress.
Nothing is without precedent.
ESPECIALLY not this
Talk to a fucking historian, I beg you
The Defense Department says it has blown up a boat in the eastern Pacific Ocean, killing six people. The strike raised the death toll in the campaign by the US against people it accuses of smuggling drugs at sea to at least 156.
a lot of discussion about how "cosmopolitan" urban dwellers are, but a really underdiscussed trend is the homogenization of culture across *rural* areas of the USA - replacement of once-distinct regional cultures with generic "redneck" accent and culture, regional religions with evanglicalism etc
Special military operation. But, it's not a war.
Fire flows through gutters meant to carry water to trees in Tehran.
Death flows where life once did.
May God forgive us.
(Video has been geoconfirmed.)
there's a lot going on right now but did you know a massive amount of the world's fertilizer flows through the middle east, and did you know that that fertilizer needs to be shipped to the us *right now* for planting season, and uh did you know we are at war with iran
Nazi Germany wasn't inexplicable to American journalists and expats there, only to Americans at home.
People need to realize that the Slave Power Conspiracy that pre-Civil War Republicans believed in was real. They wanted to make the entire country look like them. And after the CW they could only make the South go back to what it was. But they’ve been working since to bring it to the whole country.
Jeebus, yes! This is our own history, damn it!
The South ending Reconstruction and plunging their populations into a backward looking culture and economy until it was forced to modernize by the Civil Rights movement is imo a very clean parallel.
Yo, Trump. Jamal Khashoggi is still in many people's memories, you ghoul.
you do not need to wait for jesus to “come back.” dig through the rubble of any bombed out apartment complex, office building or, yes, girls’ school, and you’ll find him there, covered in dust.
feels telling about American foreign policy punditry that while many decry the aimlessness of Trump’s monstrously wrong Iran war there were far more outraged columns over the harm done to US power and influence and standing and interests and example when Biden rightly withdrew from Afghanistan.
