I’ve been getting updates and pushing them out as I can (on twitter mostly because that’s where much of the disinfo is blooming).

These bombs were not intended for Mamdani. These were not planted at Gracie Mansion.

The target was the Nazi rally.

They weren’t with the counter. They weren’t protestors. This duo approached the scene on their own, lit & threw a confirmed IED containing screws & bolts & explosive material, then lit a second one before getting tackled.

Neither detonated because they weren’t built competently. Thankfully!!

There’s a lot of confusion around this because it’s confusing. That does not mean it’s fake!

NYPD Commish did a major disservice to our info ecosystem during her post-protest briefing where she described the duo as counterprotestors, which instantly makes people conclude the counter brought bombs.

I know “it was ISIS” sounds very extreme - reasonable to want to not believe it! But it is very common for Muslim teens, especially boys, to be targeted & radicalized online. FBI agents do it constantly and then arrest kids for plotting with them.

Failed to add context here: This phrase is an ISIS slogan.

This situation does not smell like a hoax or an op. It does smell like teens radicalized online and groomed into wanting to commit a legitimate act of terrorism on behalf of ISIS.

Wider map of the NYPD blockade. By 10:30—half an hour before the “counter” and an hour & a half before the Nazi rally—these streets were inaccessible by car and on foot. The park was sealed off and barricaded, too.

All streets along York were closed off north of 86th. 87th was halfway sealed to serve as a place for protestors to get funneled in.

Anyone framing this as targeting or being related to Mamdani—when it was thrown at a Nazi rally—is incorrect.

Here is a map. It was not outside Mamdani’s home. It was more than a block away, thrown toward a Nazi rally on 87th on the opposite side of the street of Gracie Mansion.

Yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city’s values and the unity that defines who we are. What followed was even more disturbing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are. I want to thank the brave men and women of the NYPD who acted quickly to keep New Yorkers safe. Our officers ran toward danger without hesitation, demonstrating once again the courage and dedication it takes to protect this city every single day. My administration is closely monitoring the situation and I remain in close contact with our Police Commissioner.
